WTF is going on with umpiring this year?

It's like a bad joke.

It's been a bad joke for years, we used to get some decent umpiring in finals but now it's just as bad as the home and away season.

The umpiring in the 2016 GF was some of the worst I've seen when they basically rigged a premiership for the Dogs.

They were already bad but now there’s more of them out there.

Which tears taste the sweetest? Carlton tears or Essendon tears?

Right now it's the Blues, for sure. See there Carltoon you did win SOMETHING tonight.

I'm just going to enjoy the Blues pain for a week. Essendon's smashing was nice but as they say it's the hope that kills you and the Blues let themselves dream. They were starting to get insufferable.

Acres 10 touches in the first QTR and got another 8 for the game. Back to his saints form.

On CPH2145 using BigFooty.com mobile app

Not alone. That first quarter Carlton seemed to win every clearance and then get it outside and away. After quarter time they seemed to have disappeared. Cripps, Walsh, Cerra etc all seemed to just drift out of the game. The outside guys usually rely on being fed but Acres is so mobile he usually gets to contests. Brisbane just cut them open with clean kicking and running to space to provide options.

Reminds you of how clean ball use is quicker than foot speed. Brisbane got us the same way. You can't defend them easily because the ball leaves your area before you can tackle them and if they work hard ahead of the ball you can't patch all the holes they create. GWS got us that way too.

Carlton's bottom few players are still a bit ordinary. They need a bit more firepower in the small forward department. Motlop might get there but they look like Curnow is their only real avenue to goal at the moment. McKay has gone from Coleman medalist to GOP very quickly.

Pies v GWS was a class above tonight’s game. If formlines count for anything the pies win it in a canter
Pies haven’t been that good tho tbh, for mine they very easily could’ve gone out in straight sets had Melbourne and GWS just played a touch better in front of goals… just a touch.

Their biggest advantage right now is that they have the MCG and a massive crowd of supporters, and Brisbane have to come down here to show up against that WCE 2018 style.

Agree tho, the game (Pies vs GWS) as a whole was of a much higher quality than yesterday’s, but thats just because Carlton did a Carlton.

Luke Dunstan acknowledging the Saints in his retirement is a nice and gracious touch by him.

If he wants people to acknowledge he was an AFL player he needs to.
I'm kind of saddened by Luke.
When we drafted him, it was amazing. He was the first draftee for close to a decade who came in and played significant footy for most of the games in his first season . We weren't talking about his disposal, we were talking about how much he got the ball.
Back then it was Seb who looked like a wash out.

We’ve now proven to my satisfaction that you can’t get consistently good umpiring, the game is too hard to umpire.

Need to change the rules, it’s the only answer, otherwise we’ll continue to get ridiculous inconsistency.

Get rid of bounces, just throw it up.

Last disposal/touch out of bounds.

Ignore posters, make it like soccer where if it goes through it’s a goal regardless of if it comes off the post.

Strict liability holding the ball - if you’re a tackled and you don’t get a clear and obvious disposal then htb, no prior opportunity bullshit.

Get rid of “ran too far” and players bouncing the footy.

Zero off the ball contact allowed, you touch them when the ball isn’t in play or is miles away then it’s a free.

No tackling from behind at all, apart from that tackles are legal as long as you don’t grab the head. Shoulders are fine.

Probably heaps more you could do to make it way easier to umpire and not destroy the fabric of the game too much.

Get rid of "controlling" aspect with umpiring, play to natural stops as in bal pinned, OOB, mark and such at end of quarter note how many free kicks each had in F50, shots from after siren ends. No general play instance, remove the ambiguity in the immediate.

Then alter rule book.

if you lessen the eliance on umpires to run 4km in 2.7 seconds to get to right angle to view an error and you confer with boundary umpire that is literally right there after noting "check X" you'll weed out a lot of iffy tiggy touchwood things and people will not want 6-7 goal shots a quarter cause "you dun goofed" very quick smart for cleaner general play.

If the pies keep it tight, they have knack for winning close ones like Acres has a knack of touching balls on the goal line.

I think the Lions can win well if they don’t drop their bundle.

I haven’t been impressed by Collingwood for a while now. Tired of the hot air around them to be honest.

McRae is gonna ascend into a new dimension and credit you for it, hope you're ready 😘

I'll be barracking for Brisbane like I did back in 2002 and 2003 like most people that don't support Collingwood.

They will need to start better than they did against Carlton though or Collingwood could blow them away and they won't let up like Carlton.

If Brisbane can get on top in the midfield or at least break even they should win as they have more firepower up forward than the Pies do.

McStay out hurts the Pies forward line too, he was looking pretty good before he went off injured against GWS.

Looking forward to 700 free kicks a match and everybody being too scared to pick up the ball. 👍🏾

I always tend to go the Victorian team in the grand final. Also, in my opinion, the pies have played the next brand of football over the past two years. They deserve it.

The Pies have been the best side for 2 years but I can't bring myself to barrack for them.

Brisbane kill you with their HF’s. Cameron, Rayner, McCarthy and Bailey is some serious speed and power, they just needed a midfield good enough to get it down to them and with Dunkley they’ve got it now. If they can break even in the midfield they should win but unfortunately Collingwood just seem to find a way to win.

No shepherding, no bouncing the ball while running, no centre square bounce, essentially tag = HTB. Can’t tackle from behind, so if a player gets out the opposition doesn’t even have the opportunity to run him down? He can just stroll into goal?

Forget about destroying the fabric of the game, you’ve just listed the rules of touch footy.
