In no particular order here’s some comments on today’s session (and a bit of last few weeks too). Being a worksite at the moment makes it super easy to go down and have a look at all the sessions I can.

Travis Boak still partaking in all the midfield drills. I think he’ll spend a lot of time on the wing this year. There’s no room for him inside.

Josh Sinn is definitely on a modified program, has partaken in some drills over the last 2 weeks. This kid won’t make it - one of the most horrific ball drops I’ve seen.

Mitch Georgiadis moving seriously well. A couple of months ago he was limping something fierce. Trained separately from the group for the most part…plenty of goal kicking practice…still too many from around the body though - let’s get the set shot right first.

Lachie Jones is so so good. But still unsure where he best fits in this side. Would love to see him as a genuine lock down small, he’d strike fear into his opponents with the way he attacks the footy.

DBJ has no forward craft whatsoever. Understand it’s training but dumb leads constantly which resulted in less scoreboard pressure. Genuine park footballer. I’m hoping his ousting from the leadership group is a sign of acknowledgement that this guy shouldn’t be getting a game.

Tom Scully has some great mits. Very much a work in progress but plenty to work with.

Kyle Marshall shows a bit. Just did some nice brave little things. Another project player with plenty to work with.

Ollie Wines and JHF swapping deep forward quite a bit. JHF looked dangerous. Wines looked lost.

Just on Wines though - he looks very fit and is moving very well. Did some nice grunt work through the middle. Hopefully he plays predominantly midfield because if he does I’m expecting a bounce back year for Ollie.

Dan Houston is the quarterback. So much of the ball goes through him and rightfully so. Stands out with his slickness and use of the footy. Backing him for another AA year.

Esava Ratugolea will be one our most important and best players this season. So strong, very quick and nimble, and a seriously impressive contested mark. I’m really excited to watch Sav this year.

Zak Butters operates on another level. Somehow looks like he’s gained a bit more pace too.

Miles Bergman wing time may not happen. Spent most of his time and training drills in defence so far this preseason.

JHF will cause headaches for opposition. When he turns the jets on it’s all over - what impresses me most is that he’s still able to lace out kicks perfectly to his team mates. Genuine BNF smoky.

Don’t think I have to say much about Tom Clurey but interestingly spent a fair chunk of time on the wing 2 weeks in a row.

Kane Farrell doesn’t get enough of the pill to be damaging enough with his disposal. I tend to think he needs a perfect uncontested situation to really execute best too

SPP looks in career best shape. Has a bit of swagger and sense of enthusiasm about him. Can’t wait to see what he can do this season.

Jackson Mead has what it takes. He just doesn’t have the right role. Even still he was very impressive. I hope he can make that next step this year - my prediction is he’ll play all games he’s fit for.

Look like wing role vactated by X is Jase Burgoynes’ to lose. Does a lot of nice things but super fumbly at times. Still a long way from an AFL body. But I expect to see him R1.

(Interesting both FS picks that both explored options last trade period appear to have more faith shown in them by coaching staff to this point)

Ollie Lord has put on some size…good to see.

Charlie Dixon should’ve retired or been delisted. Just looks so old and clanky. I don’t care if he makes a contest every time - he can’t stick a mark and he can’t kick particularly well either. If Hinkley wasn’t coaching to save his own ass then this guy should be playing twos.

Ivan Soldo has had the no contact hat on this whole preseason (even the “closed” sessions). I feel like Homer Simpson waiting for him to do something - you know it’s going to be good! Seriously though he’s looked okay without being great. Jordan Sweet has filled his absence.

Jordan Sweet looks fantastic. Moves seriously well for a big man and kicks it even better. Definitely gets out muscled by the bigger Soldo at times but around the ground rinses him. I’d put my money on him being #1 ruck if I didn’t think Hinkley was a stubborn bastard.

Connor Rozee will win a Brownlow one day. Took it easy today compared to other sessions I’ve watched - still oozes class.

Willem Drew is a work horse. Would be players favourite team mate is my bet.

Jeremy Finlayson pretty anonymous, thought Scully showed more.

Miles Bergman transition to the wing doesn’t look to be happening. Looks to be more of a pure defender now.

Willie Rioli showed glimpses of brilliance as he has done all sessions I’ve seen. Never looks like he gets out of first gear much though.

Jed McEntee genuinely anonymous.

Lachie Charleston shows a bit, knows where the footy is going. Will Lorenz needs a bit of work, doesn’t think like an AFL footballer yet.

BZT is one of the more unimpressive recruits I’ve seen in recent years.

Todd Marshall program extremely modified at the moment.

I’ve been to about ~5 sessions this year and I can count the amount of times I’ve seen Ken Hinkley on one hand. To be fair I haven’t seen a lot of Josh Carr either. Saw a lot more of both pre-Xmas. Maybe these two are watching on and providing more to the players behind closed doors now. Part of me dies inside seeing the loser brigade of Hartlett, Stewart, Lobbe and Sutcliffe all out there coaching. And that’s ignoring The Chad™️, Goldsack with his L plates, and no-namers like Jason Williams and Luke Kelly.

Soldo I'd be eyeing off for Dixons spot.

He might not like being a Forward/Ruck but he'd be great for us if he could manage that role.

You might like a 110 kilo ruck but you don't want players running off of him.
He's come here as the number 1 ruck that's where he'll play wtf are you talking about?

How on earth does someone like Hinkley get to the level of only wandering out during training sessions if he feels it's big dog time? created a monster with this bloke.
Or is it like the old senile bloke who everyone pretends is still in charge just to placate them whilst they go about running whatever it is properly?

So basically same shit different year, 6 to 8 players carrying the other 14 blokes

So Dante is gonna be first ruck & Soldo has come here to play as a KPF/Chop out & replace Chuck?

Good smoke

Soldo is here because we could get him and we need a Ruck.

Sweet is here because we could get him and we need a Ruck.

Pretty sure nobody has been promised anything but the opportunity to be first Ruck rather than the second best Ruck were they were.

I think Soldo is likely to be the same player playing the same role he did at Richmond.

That's not a sledge BTW.

Or is it like the old senile bloke who everyone pretends is still in charge just to placate them whilst they go about running whatever it is properly?
If he's paid to be in charge to be in charge, he's in charge. He's literally just phoning it in until he can't dupe David into giving extensions any more or the aspartame does its thing.

Soldo is here because we could get him and we need a Ruck.

Sweet is here because we could get him and we need a Ruck.

Soldo fitness permitting will be number 1 ruck from round 1 and be given umpteen weeks before anyone else.

He's here as a Ruck.

Don't think I've seen number 1 mentioned by the club.
If they planned to have Sweet as the primary ruck the price we paid for Soldo is even more atrocious.
