This a great pick up for us, and i think that it really adds a sense of long term security in our tall forward stocks, especially considering Dixon's retirement, Marshalls concussion concerns and the uncertainty around Lord's development or desire to return to Vic.

I don't feel the fact he slid to us represents concerns of other clubs around him etc, more so they had other list needs to prioritise ahead of picking a tall forward. Not to mention the dearth of on ball talent in the top end of the draft this year. The draft order also is an add on to that.

Tall forwards can take a bit longer to develop and 'come on' as well, so there's a few factors involved. Either way, a really great selection by the club, and we can see the emphasis that's been placed on developing a dynamic and effective forward line for the future.

He has really good technique ... I like how he always marks the ball at the highest point, and HOLDS it there! Also, when marking it in front of him, he protects the ball from being spoiled. Unlike Marshall, Finlayson, and even Georgie, who tend to relax at the point of marking the ball, and fail to protect the mark, often letting their "gimme" marks get spoiled by defenders.

He has the potential to be an absolute hulk of a human given his frame. Historically Port haven't drafted players with his body type in combination with his level of talent over the last decade so I'm excited to see him grow and develop.

In many ways, he was the right tall forward to draft given his longterm ability to pinch hit in the ruck as well. He looks a good size already - certainly not a light/narrow frame like Tom Scully. His average disposal counts and highlights also show an ability to find the ball around the ground, including generating his own clearances from ruck. He seems to lead ok and clearly has the capacity to take true pack marks. It’s a great package to start from, especially if he is self-motivated, competitive and hard-working to go with it.

I just wish we had someone like that ready to play in 2025.

Yeah, I was surprised to see people refer to him as another skinny tall - reminded me of Tom Lynch's frame when he was first drafted. Get those arms, shoulders and chest bulked up and he could be a formidable unit.

Love a forward with confidence.

A bit like JHF we need these types who want to be top dog and win shit.

It always bothered me that Marshall was 200cm tall and bowled off spin.

Exactly. We need some more players with the borderline arrogance of JHF. Stop trying to be the Boak nice guy all the time

Fox Footy article backgrounding the Whitlock twins. Much like The Age article but more accessible.

“We’d compete for everything,” Jack Whitlock tells foxfooty.com.au. “We’d run down the road and race each other, then back up to play basketball together.

“Footy, cricket, tennis, anything really – it was pretty much the ‘Whitlock Olympics’.

“We’re just competitive boys.”

The Whitlocks’ aggressiveness derives from a childhood of fierce backyard battles that, more often than not, ended in tears.

I don't think there's going to be much doubting his competitiveness.

Jarman Impey is the only other player we have drafted who comes from Shepparton, but I reckon there was someone who played for the Magpies in the 80's who came from there. Shepparton was the old country recruiting zone for Melbourne. Country zoning in the VFL started in 1970 and in the SANFL either the same year or the next year.

His local state government MP Wendy Lovell who is also from Shepparton sent out a congratulatory message on Facebook and Instagram to Jack Whitlock and Joe Berry for being drafted by Port Adelaide.

Obviously not who you mean but Ange Foley is from Shepparton too.
