That strong and engaging character and family environment seem to go a long way with Port's recruiters.
Berry, Whitlock and Moraes all seem such good speakers already and from strong families and sporting environments. And Whitlock wants to prove something being overlooked to pick 33, he's going to be all in at Port.
I remember the days when talking to young recruits was like watching Molly Meldrum trying to interview Paul Cook and Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols.
Mead's instant upgrade in Joe Richards imo. Playing that high half forward role with some time on the wing. That's what Richards did at Collingwood. But agree that Moraes could also be a long term alternative to that position.I think Mead is the player who should be most nervous by this selection. Could be an instant upgrade
I think he gets a bit lazy with decision making rather than it being a skill deficiency.is his drop of the ball on his foot the reason his kicking efficiency is low?
Absolutely agree, Christian appears to set lofty standards for himself, yet his form was strong enough to garner selection in the Victorian Metro State team…….. some players might be happy to hang their hat on that alone…… but with credit, apparently not Christian. He wanted more ……Q&A: Christian Moraes (Eastern Ranges)
Christian Moraes is hoping to go one better with the Eastern Ranges this year after his late-season form helped them to a Grand Final berth.central.rookieme.com
There’s a humility and self-deprecating, even self-critical nature to Moraes that is already endearing. It sounds like he is a fairly harsh and honest judge of himself. I’ve seen three interviews - two with him and one with Parker - where he has stated that he was disappointed in his 2024 season. His numbers and highlights still look good on the surface but it sounds like he had some inconsistent form and quieter games through the middle of the year, including in the U18 carnival. Reckon he puts a lot of pressure on himself which may make him too nervous to perform at his best sometimes. If we can get that balance right and turn his self-critical nature into a hard work ethic and drive to improve, but also instil confidence in himself, he may be able to become a really top-line player.
It sounds like he could very much be an option on a wing, which gives us three now in Burgoyne, Lorenz and Moraes.

Agreed great reaction by Moraes and he appears to know something about the PAFC which is good to see.Great reaction to being drafted by Port.
The worst reaction ever was a 17 yo Josh Carr who looked like he’d been drafted to fight in Vietnam. Funny thing is he has voluntarily come back to the club 3 times since and will probably end up the club’s first AFL Premiership player and Coach.
We traded up for Berry so he knows he was our target.Hawthorn tried to get him as an nga for his Brazilian heritage but he didn't qualify.
We really drafted some kids who seem genuinely nice and excited to be at the club. They should add some enthusiasm to the pre season.
I honestly don’t give rankings a great deal of substance.Rookie me Central profile from their Top 30 Players to Watch section of their Draft Guide. In their Power Rankings they ranked him 30, Berry 18, Whitlock 19.
