Personally, I don’t think WCE first rounder is enough, I think they also need to give us 23 this year for our pick 43. This is a fairer trade as we are risking a year of development and we still need players this year. WCE have been strongly considering trading Pick 1 to get this player so they covet him.

For us to drop from 8 to high 20’s and get a first rounder is a sensible speculative trade, however pick 8 this year is a valuable pick and it’s high so we have to consider if they did have a better than expected year we would give away too much with a straight swap.

The Fox sports phantom also has us trading pick 7 to the eagles. But then has us selecting Demattia with our next selection.
Would be a fan, he'd be one of if not my top target in that range barring anyone totally unexpected being avaliable. Played in a few different roles but has tools of a modern midfielder, speed and explosiveness, can really kick of the footy and goes both ways. Think settling in a role will be big for him if it doesn't work out as an inside mid, then his skills still translate well to other roles like as an outside mid or off halff back. Think there's multiple avenues for him to have an impact. Would love Tholstrup in this spot as well but it seems like he might be gone by then.

Guys there is no way we dont finish last or second last next year, after have 7 +100 point losses. Would be pick 1 or 2 but norf, hawks etc are all better than us. Pre confident it will be pick 1
Beat us last year so we know you can put it together over in Perth. But yes...I think you guys will be happy taking Curtin for that pick. Makes sense.
That'll be the trade though...nothing more required

Cal Twomey has us taking James Leake with our first pick. I don’t really get it if we do take him. He’s not exceptional at any position. Good overhead for his size…

Doesn't feel like factored in trades coz guessing that is too hard. Still baffled that we would take Leake at 7 instead of Caddy or O'Sullivan
Yep, same same.

As I've said before, I'm more bullish on COS than Caddy, but I rate both higher than Leake. Not to say that Leake couldn't be the brighter star at the end of everyone's career (every draftee is just potential at this point), but given how the clubs rate the kids now (presuming the intel is correct), we could definitely trade down to grab him. Probably no further back than Adelaide's pick, but potentially pick up #20 into the bargain, or a 2024 first round pick.

Yeah Leake at 7 doesn't do it for me either, get it a bit more if you move back with Adelaide and pick up an extra pick but even then still seems too early, wouldn't be passing up on Caddy if Curtin is out of the equation.

I think we need to back the recruiters in. Caruso places a lot of emphasis on data, which is blind to popular bias, he’s been pretty adept at extracting talent.

As much as vision can tell part of a story ultimately it’s some snippets and only a glimpse.

My preference is to trade out and get a future 1st if we can with WCE but failing that just get one of those blokes talked about, it seems all the clubs have identified the same people.

I reckon they also place a lot of value on the character and resilience of a potential recruit, which I really like.

Been watching more footage of Leake… funnily enough he’s pretty similar to Callan Ward.

Think an interesting part of getting the WC F1 is the potential possibilities it opens up next year, it very likely gives us a chance to add a premium young talent but also could be traded for an established elite player. If we can put together another deep finals run next year as well as a strong regular season we could be seen as a potentially attractive destination for someone looking to win now and long term. Could trade the WC F1 on it's own or pair it with our 1 our potentially trade back from the top of the draft into more picks, it gives us more flexibility and options going into next year. Top 4 pick + 15~ is an offer that would get you an elite player.

PMBangers what's the draft looking like next year. anyone peaking your interest at year out that would be a good fit if we were to have the WC pick?
Very good for midfielders, the top 3 right now of Finn O'Sullivan, Jagga Smith and Sid Draper would all be strong additions to our onball brigade.

He’s not exceptional at any position
That's an astoundingly bad take, best general defender in a draft stacked with them, top 3 general forward prospect and then who knows where he would've ended up being in the order had he played more midfield

What do you think we do. Do we trade with West coast, or somebody else.
Maybe we can do a 3 way trade,
Where we lose 7,16,2024r1 and get eagles 2024r1, 10,20.

I don't see Adelaide getting involved in a trade that doesn't net them a higher Pick this year, there's not going to be a best of both worlds scenario for us. We either trade it into next year, trade back this year or take the pick, personally I'd take the Eagles Future Round 1 and run

Will it be a straight swap, or will we have to chuck in 2024r2 or r3.

I'll throw myself through a glass pane if we added anything to the deal lol

Leake wouldn't be my pick at 7 but he's still a really quality prospect, see him as a forward at the next level and think he can really damaging. His marking is so good that it creates a real mismatch because if flankers and small are put on him he's going to be able to beat them 1v1 and in the air but then also still has crumbing ability at ground level. Could be some scope for him to move up the ground a bit as well as a midfielder but that's more projection at this stage I think considering the small sample size although there were some flashes. As a half forward kicking back i50 think he's got a nice kick and is a sound decision maker which is always important in the front half. Wouldn't be my pick but don't sell him short he's a good prospect and it doesn't seem like we're the only club looking at him in that range.
