Last injury update on the Swans website was pre our final practice match, so lets go with the latest from SEN;
Ryan Clarke (hamstring) - 2 weeks
Robbie Fox (calf) - 1 week
Tom Hickey (hamstring) - 2 weeks
Jacob Konstanty (shin) - TBC
Sam Reid (glute) - TBC
Sam Wicks (shoulder) - TBC

So Amartey with the reserves run out last weekend would IMO be the obvious in for Buddy.
That would be the simple one for one replacement but I hope they at least consider debuting McAndrew.
Let him take more ruck minutes and Ladhams take a fair bit of the third forward role. A little experiment. Just a thought.

Finally a new update. Bizarrely dated 3 days ago, sure as heck wasn't there last night, or the day before, or......

Few players got cramp in win v Hawthorn, all expected to be fine for Sunday.
Melican came off with sore groin in reserves match. Being assessed.

Reid;
Sam is still recovering from a glute strain suffered in our practice match against Carlton and is yet to return to full training. Still a few weeks away.

Fox;
Robbie is nearing a return to play from his calf strain. He will commence team training this week, with a view to then determine his return to play match.

Clarke;
Ryan is also nearing a return to play from his hamstring strain. We expect him to train fully this week ahead of a return to play in Round 4.

Hickey;
The plan this week is to build his running volume and speed before progressing into modified team skills. We are being cautious with him and it will be a slower build for Tom.

Wicks;
He is training hard and at good intensity to regain match fitness. He will be reviewed by his specialist in 2 weeks before he commences any upper body based work.

Konstanty;
Jacob continues to progress on his return from shin soreness. He is still building his running volume and agility, whilst also focussing on his aerobic conditioning.

Robbie Fox
Robbie trained well with the team last week. He completed our main training session and additional skills. He will be a test for this weekend.

Ryan Clarke
Ryan completed full team training last week, with top up skills in order to build his match play exposure. He will continue his progressions through VFL match play this weekend.

Sam Reid
Sam remains limited in his running at the moment. He is completing straight line running only and is yet to progress to team training. He continues to be assessed by our rehabilitation team on a weekly basis to determine his best management plan.

Tom Hickey
Tom has recommenced modified team training. We expect him to partake in some skills this week, with reintegration to full training and match play next week as he nears a return to play.

Jacob Konstanty
Jacob is progressing well with his rehabilitation. He has commenced some rehab skills and continues to build his volume and aerobic conditioning.

Sam Wicks
Sam continues to run at good volumes and good intensity ahead of his specialist review in a week’s time.

Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper has provided an update on the injury list ahead of a Round 5 match against Richmond.

Paddy McCartin

Paddy is doing well in the early stages of his recovery. He still has some residual symptoms which are not unexpected. He will be monitored closely in accordance with the AFL’s HIA protocols.

Tom McCartin
Tom is also doing well in his recovery but will miss the match against Richmond after entering the AFL’s HIA protocols. He will continue to be monitored closely.

Lance Franklin
Lance completed the game against Port Adelaide but suffered a knock to the knee in the last quarter. He has been unable to train this week due to his knee soreness and will not play against Richmond this weekend.

Lewis Melican
Lewis is progressing well in his rehabilitation from a low grade adductor strain. He is completing introductory team skills, and we expect him to train fully next week.

Ryan Clarke
Ryan completed full team training last week and is expected to be available for selection this week.

Sam Reid
Sam’s rehabilitation has failed to progress over the last fortnight due to pain in his hamstring tendon. After further investigations and consultations with external specialist, Sam will now not run for 4 weeks and we don’t expect him to return to play before the midseason bye.

Tom Hickey
Tom completed modified team skills last week, and will reintegrate in to match play this week. We expect him to be available for selection in the next 1 – 2 weeks.

Jacob Konstanty
Jacob was reintroduced to team skills last week. He is planned to commence full training this week with an expected return in the next fortnight.

Sam Wicks
Sam is now 8 weeks after his shoulder surgery. He has increased his gym based strength exercises and will aim to recommence contact drills in the next fortnight.

And Rampe too!

So here's our injuries to tall defenders.

Our best three: Rampe, T. McCartin, P. McCartin - ALL gone.
The back ups: Melican, Francis & Gould - ALL unavailable (or is Gould available - he's named as an emergency??)
The tall utility we have traditionally turned to to fill in a hole down back - Sam Reid - also unsighted.

The only tall guy left is first year rookie Will Edwards who we are not prepared to roll the dice with.

So, we have to plan carefully and change our game plan, and then rely on Fox to be Herculean and perhaps Blakey to try his hand as an interceptor if not a lockdown defender.

Maybe the idea of bringing Amartey back is no longer so unlikely? I still can't see that happening - not for the full game anyway.

The one thing we have going the other way is that Richmond has Lynch out, and they've had to name Ryan in the ruck. Very fortunate for us. Hopefully we'll have Tommy and Dane back next round.
