So Hickey, Fox and Clarke definitely out Rd1.
Hickey -> Ladhams
Fox trickier could be Gould if his back is OK or Campbell. Love to see Gould get a run.
Clarke could be Sheldrick or Konstanty. Like to see Sheldrick in a rotation with Parker and Papley.
Don't see any shuffles that would offer more.
Konstanty shin soreness, doubt they'd risk him for rd.1. Matty Roberts impressed in pre-season from all reports, backing him to be selected. Gould should play if his back is ok. He was ready for seniors last season & we can cover fox with Blakey/Mcinnerney/Rampe/Mills playing in the back half imo.

Ladhams should cover for Hickey provided his tendonitis has settled. Otherwise looks like it will be McAndrew. If Reid is unavailable they might even play both.

Sheldrick seems best replacement for Clarke (given Konstanty - and also Wicks - are out of the running).

I would hope Gould could come in for Fox - but he's dealing with back soreness. Otherwise I reckon maybe we could see Cunningham rather than Francis.

What's the deal with Blakey? Is he going to play R1? I should have asked him - I saw him tonight. But he might not know.

So, I know they've had minutes in the practice matches but are Reid, Buddy and Blakey locks to be ready for AFL selection Round 1? Or do they need more time to develop some match fitness to play at AFL level? I'm not asking for an opinion, more if anyone knows the official club line.

Buddy & Blakey I would say are a lock. Not so sure about Sammy.

Whilst you never want injuries, I think it’s positive that Ladhams will get 3-4 games at the start of the season to show what he can bring. Ideally he makes it very hard for Horse to replace him and RJ becomes the back up ruck for the rest of the season.
Yes Ladhams now has the chance to be our main ruckman this year. Another of my predictions for this year off to a promising start. I'm telling ya, by the end of this season I'm gonna have to change my name to Nostradamus88.

In your own mind

Cunningham better than Sheldrick in that Clarke role. Doubt Cunningham gets a run in defence unless we get hit with injuries.

I think you may be right: I wrote that before Harry C starred in a forward role against Carlton. I won't be surprised to see Sheldrick get a run but perhaps Harry C is the more likely small forward due to his experience and versatility.

Would not have said Harry starred v Carlton.

He was given many chances to cement a spot as a small forward but failed to grasp it.. A move down back saved his career. He has been overtaken by others there and Is now a very solid depth player..

I think Cunningham has shown enough to get a round 1 spot in attack over Sheldrick. 2 goals, 14 disposals as a small forward is a good return.

Plus we can move him to defence or the midfield if needed during the match.

I can't help it if you're a curmudgeon!

Harry is a better player now than last time he was played as a forward. Personally, I'd be really excited to see them getting games in to Sheldrick who I'm a huge fan of (apparently in the queue behind DQ). But I think it would be legitimate and unsurprising if they go for the more experienced and versatile Cunningham who has just demonstrated he can do the job.

We have a lot of youth in our team already and balancing it with experience is important for success. The question is to what extent do we just try to win every game this season, without worrying about the future, and just think 'the future is now'? That said, the forward line is the part of the ground where we least need the experience. Most of them are in the leadership group already.

Is Harry injured ?

I find all of this very odd, given that Cunningham was Best 22 and a regular outside of the forward line before he moved down back, on the wing or sometimes in a run with role. Was fairly decent when played more up forward for a few years before that, during very good years for us. The only years between 2014 and 2022 where he wasn't a regular, were the injury ravaged 2017 (11) and 2019 (9).

I'd have looked at him as a Clarke replacement over Sheldrick regardless of what he did against Carlton.

Last injury update on the Swans website was pre our final practice match, so lets go with the latest from SEN;
Ryan Clarke (hamstring) - 2 weeks
Robbie Fox (calf) - 1 week
Tom Hickey (hamstring) - 2 weeks
Jacob Konstanty (shin) - TBC
Sam Reid (glute) - TBC
Sam Wicks (shoulder) - TBC

So Amartey with the reserves run out last weekend would IMO be the obvious in for Buddy.

Saw that yesterday and thought Hickey was a Calf
