Interesting comment “don’t care enough”.

Recruiting and list management in effect is the key to any premiership success. Therefore just shrugging your shoulders at lost opportunities if it turns out to be that, is an odd attitude for someone that posts daily about the club.

We chose a known dud in Brown which has meant we have no list spots. The guys career with us is going to amount to half a game as a sub.

I for one will be pissed if Narkle has a good career at Port knowing it’s another example of them being better than us at it.
To be fair most of the guys taken in last nights mid season draft will be the same

Other than maybe Maric most of them will help the state league side

I’d rather us not take a pick if we don’t rate the talent , but also agree Brown was a waste as well

You just don’t get into as many s**t fights as me, they take up a lot of posts ;)

And I’m guessing your posting is a bit more consistent recently that it was early on.

But we are in a list management thread, it’s a bit rich to come in and try to dismiss list management discussion!

Wasn't said to upset you. Just a prediction what I think we'll see.

You're right, this is the list management thread, so discuss away. I just offered a differing view about the importance of the issue, not necessarily disagreeing with you.

For what it's worth, for genuine first 22 mids, I want us to be looking at the untried on our list, early draftees, free agents and trade targets.

I suspect Brown was added to the list as SANFL depth, not really as a long term mid prospect.

I'm sure Narkle will be fine player for them, it's not about him.

Unless something drastically changes Narkle will be just depth with the odd sub role

Averaging 20 disposals a game a VFL level as an experienced player , nothing special but might have some impact in small doses

Yeah for me it’s not so much about not picking up a player but the not even having the option to because somehow in their wisdom they thought Brown was a good pick up, when list spots were so tight, that’s the concerning part. How the hell did they value him an afl quality player, he lasted a half as the sub in the first game and won’t be seen again.

They might have well just given me his salary to piss up against the wall and blow on Multis.

The MSD would be more interesting if you could delist players mid year to free up a list spot (I mean properly delist, not just put on the inactive list). The delisted player gets their contract paid out and is free to be picked up by another AFL club or go back to the state leagues.
Or a mid season trade period

Just rewatching the Brisbane game again. A player who had a sneaky good 1st quarter was Cam Rayner.

Just saw he's OOC at seasons end. Anyone sniffing around him yet?

Feel like he's the kind of player that needs a change of scenery to start reaching his potential. Seems like his card has been stamped at Brisbane, and that card reads "Career forward".

Contracted til end of 2025.

Agree it was weird how quickly we jumped on Brown in pre season. Doesn’t seem to have anything that Hateley doesn’t have

And I personally quite like Narkle and would have liked to see us get him at the end of last season. Will be in testing to see if he can do something

And yet in MSD and PSD terms we have been one of the most successful clubs in recent years with Parnell and Murray - so swings and roundabouts I guess

I think in hindsight most of the guys taken last night will be looked at the same

You might take 3 or 4 guys like that and one comes off eg keays

Personally was never interested or keen on him and I think most on here the same

Yeah I think these days the MSD is really just there to pick up depth in a position you may have a few injuries in. I'm not really fussed that we didn't take anyone, our injury list is so small atm and we have a few guys in the SANFL who are ready to go if we need them. Anyone we picked up last night would have been very low chance to play this year.

Probably more examples of people being ignored in drafts who then turned out to be a dud.
Yes I don’t think anyone’s claimed it to be 100% hit rate.

I hope Sam Berry hasn't dropped that far.
Hopefully Sam can bounce back next year
Yeah...but currently stuck just outside the team with limited realistic options to break through without injuries. Solid player with strengths...but areas of improvement need to occur for him to return to best 22.

I hope he makes it. Might be easier in a post Sloane world but there will be others who challenge for these spots who are his current team mates in the SANFL.

The one thing in Berrys favour is our clearance game is awful. If he figures it out and kicks out of this slump, there is certainly a spot for him.

He may want to do it before Soligo and Pedlar become full time mids though.

Ralph saying we've offered Redman $750K -800K ......now we wouldn't pay that to retain Lever ....but we are with Redman ??

So who blows out the other end, as a result of the deal ....there's always consequences

A lot of players coming thru together, who'll want to be paid .......

Lever was in a different list phase and only going into his 4th year. Plus we weren't offering kids $ on potential at that stage, you had to already have the runs on the board.

Doedee stands out as one option.

Everyone's assuming Doedee is gone .....I have my doubts, I reckon he stays

If we're getting Redman, I don't doubt Adelaide's ability to shoot themselves in the foot either.

You do keep Doedee in the scenario we don't.

Watching us get smashed in the midfield again in centre clearances and contested possession.

There is an unsigned mid who averages the most disposals in the comp (33), 4th highest contested possession (15), 2nd most centres clearances on average (3.8) and 480m gained which sits him at 21st in the comp for that stat.

Starting to wonder if maybe he is the best option to go for and maybe hopeful we have a bid in

Any rucks stuck in 2nd position behind a proven player who are worth a 3rd rounder? Or are we better off playing Strauchan?

With Briggs playing well, Flynn and Pruess at the Giants may be an option. Pittonett? Xerri?
