Crouch’s performance did show that if nothing else he’s a pro. I still think he’ll struggle at times but we shouldn’t ever play Sloane ahead of him moving forward.

I have been saying for over 12 months. Since Dave McKay left we have lost the speed out of the back half. No one is quicker than Philactides in this draft. Ranked 5th in the world for 110 hurdles as a 17yr old. Get him in! I love Moir as well. Get Moir in a AFL environment where they will use his kicking to their advantage unlike u18s. Moir is super talented and has done enough to show he is good enough to be on an AFL list. I just don’t know how we get them both with our draft picks.

If we are going to keep Crouch on, why not put Laird in the backline again for next year or even this year?

if Crouch is going to be delisted at years end I dont want him playing one more game.. its just a complete waste regardless of how good he plays.
if he is going to be given another year or two then sure, he plays.. but Sloane, or maybe even Keays, has to go out to accomodate him.. and Sloane has to be told to retire come years end.
if they re-sign both sloane and mcrouch then we will be completely clogging our list and damaging its future..
There may well be a battle for one spot from Crouch and Sloane. Crouch has come from out of nowhere to stake a powerful claim, Rory may need to do something dramatic pretty soon, ie. grease up and get in the ring.
His wife has a pretty big job in Adelaide from what I recall, so they stayed here. He's got property in Victoria too. I've seen him down bars in Leigh and Peel St fairly often on Fridays.

This is how I see the off-season departures / swapping of list types looking:
Delisted/FA:
M Crouch (likely ends up at a Vic club - we receive no compo. Despite his showdown heroics, he’s a 5% chance max of signing another contract with us surely)
FA:
Doedee (clearly had a deal stitched up with a Vic club prior to doing his knee - I suppose he might end up staying if that club has been spooked by a 2nd ACL, but it’s still considerably more likely that he leaves IMO)
Delisted (senior list):
J Hately (100% gone)
W Hamill (redrafted as Cat A rookie - same as the McPherson situation last year)
Delisted (Cat A rookie list):
T Brown (100% gone)
A McPherson (100% gone)
Delisted (Cat B rookie list):
T Newchurch (100% gone)
J Borlase (redrafted as Cat A rookie - this assumes he’s definitely no longer eligible to remain a Cat B rookie - the AFL change rules every year so who knows)
Delisted (inactive list):
F McAsey (already happened)
P Seedsman (obviously happening)
Traded (not definite):
Maximum of one of S McAdam or L Sholl (both could be better fits at other clubs than ours but this is no more than a 50% chance of happening)
So essentially, in this scenario, 4-5 senior list spots are opened up.
1) Doedee > FA to Vic
2) Crouch > FA or delisted FA to Vic
3) Hamill > senior spot vacated, redrafted to rookie list
4) Hately > delisted
And MAYBE
5) 1 of McAdam or Sholl > trade
We then bring in 1-2 players via trade or FA. We know the list of potential targets there includes Bailey Williams as a FA. I’d say it now includes a mature bodied key defender too considering recent events. Do we go hard for an in-contract Brennan Cox? Do we target an out of favour defender somewhere? Are there any SA-born key defenders (regardless of contract status) who might want out? Or do we use a late pick in the draft to pluck a ready to go type from the VFL or SANFL? Or, do we (clears throat*) use a top 10 pick on a key defender and continue to avoid drafting midfielders with such picks?
Then we take 2-4 picks to the National Draft (probably 3 let’s be honest).

I see Henry Smith got quite a bit of it for the Lions as did Moyle from the Suns.
Not sure of the longer term form of either but i really liked of what i saw of smith in Under 18 camps.
Former - local boy who might be interested in coming back home to play for us. Well over 200cm and around 20-21 years old. Could take a good grab as a tall FP.
Moyle more of a difficult get. Vic boy who has - and would have - interest from other clubs and from Vic in particular.
Need to train someone up as when Rob has to go against tall players like Gawn Witts etc he often struggles.

Smith just signed a new 2 or 3 year Contract, a couple of weeks ago
I would have liked to get Meek last year .....we might look at a RUCK from the state leagues ......a draftee, will take 4-5 years .....and an existing AFL Club Listed Ruck will only move for AFL opportunities
To clarify, the rule is that we need to make a minimum of 3 selections in the ND (rookie upgrades count towards the total). It's not just 3 changes total.
We need to create a minimum of 3 vacancies on our senior list, of which 2 will be filled by upgrading Murray and Parnell.

West coast are gonna be so busy at trade week, the time to snaffle Barnett is this off season particularly if they lose Liam Ryan, McAdam could be an option for them we could do a straight swap there.
They should also consider Crouch, he would play every week and take some pressure of Tim Kelly. Would be a great stop gap option while their younger kids develop

I assume we will use our 3 picks at the national draft. 6, 20 & 24. And maybe a rookie.
Given Adelaide's propensity for doing draft pick swaps, I would be very surprised if those are the picks we end up using in the actual draft.

I can't help but think his performance on Saturday night may be a catalyst to push Sloane into retirement though.
He works at MRS Property I reckon. I often see him in the building I work in at Light Square.
Does Parnell need to be upgraded this year? I don't think he is a lock to be upgraded if he doesn't need to.
Yes, this is his 3rd year on the rookie list. Both he and Murray need to be upgraded.
There are still many permutations for player departures, and Crouch's game on Sunday has complicated things even further... but the upgrade of those 2 rookies is one certainty we know about already.
