It's questionable whether he would be an upgrade for ROB... as It's been a while since he has had a decent run of form.

Surely our priorities are elsewhere...

Could almost argue that the year before his 7 year contract was his only elite year, the rest average

unfortunately we are wedded to ROB now (and have been since giving him his long term contract). He still has 2 more years to go, and you can bet your left nut that he will at the very least, see those two years out as the no.1 at the crows.
ROB will always be seen (blindly) internally as a 'top 5 ruck in the comp', simply based on his durability and stats. So why would they move him on?
The gains that acquiring a top 3 ruck would provide would be offset (and more) by having to pay ROB out some, and the rankings of ruckmen in the comp atm is completely up in the air (besides Gawn numero uno).
I fear it's even too late to draft and start developing a gun young ruck to take over at ROBs contract expiry. That ain't happening in 2 years.
Look forward to a ROB 2-3 year contract extension in mid-late 2024, and he will keep feeding oppo mids the ball like a 5 star waiter until 2030

The club have almost given no thought to out rucks, signed Rob and Strauny for the next 2 years. There will be no change unless they finally decide to actually draft one. I think Rob has been ok this year but had an absolute stinker last week

No they would not. ROB is a perfectly serviceable ruckman, it would be wasteful to spend money or picks to get an upgrade.

Elite rucks are a luxury, not a necessity for a premiership side.

So you're comparing an elite sporting environment with the middle managers at your local bank?

Honestly, of the actual evidence you've seen, what makes you think players at our club (or almost any club) are resentful and jealous of each other?

I acknowledge that may be the work environment you're in, but that's not exactly an elite performance environment I assume?

Maybe, just maybe, folks on a team actually look out for each other? Maybe they're actually good mates?

Sporting environments are famously worse where cash = respect; particularly in a cap controlled context or where roster spots are limited and controlled.

But whatever

The city of london (or Wall Street) investment banking/financial services is about as elite a performance environment as you’ll find - and you better believe there isn’t much singing of Kumbaya when annual performance bonuses are announced ;)

Whether data entry, cleaning staff or catering service staff, these guys might be earning little but go nuts if someone isn’t pulling their weight

A better question is how representative do you think that rare off broadway touring production where everyone makes the same equity minimum actually is?

Or even simpler, is your salary public?

Why do players ask for trades?

Opportunity and ............ And ....

MONEY MONEY MONEY

And why did Brisbane have to double Charlie Cameron’s salary even though (allegedly) he moved to be nearer to family?

Or Eddie Betts admit he would have stayed at Carlton if only they had offered him a mere $50K more? It wasn’t just money, it was a lack of respect too

Look, where there’s smoke there’s fire, and where there’s more smoke, there’s a bigger blaze

I’d be shocked if Doedee doesn’t, at the very least, come close to making a move to another state official. I’m sure he’s seen that Worrell and Hinge have had a similar, if not better impact on the side

Doesn’t matter if he ‘wants’ to stay (WaynesWorld19), if he knows he can get a better deal + better opportunity elsewhere, I think he’ll leave

Actually I’ll a story of a good friend of mine, had lunch with him on Saturday. He’s a senior equity partner in M&A working for the no.1 firm on Wall Street K&E. they are the most profitable, highest earning firm. I can barely count the zeroes on his compensation

Anyway, he was telling a story between his firm and another top 10 American Law firm that a mutual friend works for.

His firm, with their sky high compensation knows what a source of discontent this is; so they are completely transparent. Completely. Not only does everyone know the formulas, how bonus is calculated, billing targets, how share is calculated etc they are scrupulous with long burn cases where the contingent fees might be years off - this matters where partners have left, retired whatever. People know that whatever happens they’ll get their share.

They are as cutthroat a performance firm as there is, but when it comes to compensation they are scrupulously fair and transparent because of the tensions that can arise.

More than their competitors, because nothing disrupts more than sniping over money.

People in real world environments don’t sing Kumbaya when it comes to money.

There is a reason why the old saying goes: Money is the root of all evil

But yeah, Aussie rules footballers don’t care about that stuff ;)

Ps Mostyn I think you’ve met that guy, happy to connect you again if you want to dispute his story. For a small wager of course ;)
When I said elite performance, I didn't mean environments that are maximised for financial impact.

I meant elite sporting environments, where collaboration and team connection is key to being able to work together as one unit.

My point is only that it seems incorrect to always assume resentments and jealousy amongst teammates. Obviously many become lifelong friends and wouldn't necessarily want their mate to be thrown out to the kerb. Some may be happy their friend stays.

What’s happens if Strauny decides he is sick of being stuck behind ROB and looks elsewhere? We would be in a world of hurt

On 5AA this morning the impression very much was he'll stay, but he wants a better offer than what we're offering.

Said he was gonna begin negotiations after the bye week and then did his ACL the week before.

You mean like Edwards and McLeod?

I get the feeling he's gonna stay because I can't see anyone really offering anything staggering at this point to convince him to leave.
Interesting we both heard the same interview and came away with different thoughts. I guess he did well to answer the questions in the way he did then.

What move to be in the same position he's in with the Crows....Keiran isn't going to get a lead ruck position at another club? I think he'd be thinking better the devil you know. He decent back up at best at AFL level.

LOL ....remember everyone on this board saying Milera will never put on weight .....that he'll always be a skinny stick

Moving on.....last year, people were saying Milera was overweight

Re Parnell's dash ....my recollection is he has shown dash at AFL level .....albeit we've seen little of him in his 2nd year
The best and worst of him on display this year at afl level to show what he’s got and hasn’t got

Played a near perfect game against saints on dry deck showing dash and kicking skills

Was monstered by bigger bodies in doggies game in wet

Reckon we’d just be better off trying to draft in a higher level wing talent, rather than move Hinge back up the ground to accomodate Parnell. Why mess with a good thing? Hinge’s production has increased by plenty since moving to defence full-time this year
Hinge isn’t moving out of his current role , not in a million years

Agree ....however, he's also playing the best footy of his career, this year ....showing much better physicality, and his confidence is back ....something we wondered, if would see

Yeah, Hinge’s form the second half of the year (as well as Milera’s) has made me not really bothered about Redman now. If he continues up the same form, Hinge should be AA squad or maybe even team next year

Doesn’t mean that we didn’t need Redman earlier in the year given the showcased form, though
I don’t know , I just think we’d take any A grade players and give them roles to make our side much better

Redman could play wing , half forward , half back , midfield

190cm that run like the wind and kick it 55m on the run are pretty valuable

Swap smith for retirement too soon for Redman and we gain plenty

Cmon, don't sit on the fence ;) .....I do believe though, Hinge will still play multiple roles .....he's a great utility
