He's really not a good enough player to hold a club to ransom.

Being chronically injury prone only makes things worse.

If he can get a better deal elsewhere, then he should take it. I doubt too many of us would begrudge him or even care really.
He was IMO all set to leave us prior to his knee injury.

IF Doedee leaves and we end up with say band 3 - we could offer up 3 x 2nd round picks to them which would e way more points than their 1st. But using the F1 if we think Welsh will eat that up is not a bad idea and we could use that and the north 2nd or the Doedee compo (if he leaves) for the GC 1st
If we were to use the future first, you would hope we would also try and get their future 2nd back as part of the deal for points for next year. I am sure we will try and push any picks we don't use this year into next year to start loading up on the points to cover both our picks.

Tom Doedee is a tragic example of the 'short term deal' gamble that takes you to F8 (as Cal calls it) turning very VERY sour.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tom left 3 or even 4 years on the table at substantially higher money then he will be able to get now that he's blown his knee out a 2nd time, could also have cost him any chance at the Captaincy (and the financial kickers that come with that) as well. TBH I wouldn't be surprised if his potential earning capacity as an AFL player has halved.

Should be a stern warning to all those young talented players who's agents convince them to 'bet on themselves' with shoehorn deals to take them to F8.

Do that at your own risk, cause Footy is a fickle sport, and you are only ever 1 bad landing away from that bet costing you hundred and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Probably more.

Not across the draft and points this year, but what would it take to get the Suns pick 4? Would a pick 6 and pick 19 do it this year given their need for points? Totally not across it so interested in views..would end up with picks 4 and 23 in that scenairo I understand?

They need points. So whatever they get for their first pick needs exceed the value of said pick to make it worthwhile so they can take their academy players.

I suspect it would have to involve our two second round picks and future first pick somehow.

The real question is: who would we pick at 4?

I’m off to the draft board to find out 😆.

Ps I’d take Watson

Wow. Changed his tune.

I suspect he was leaving, had a deal agreed in principal maybe with a Brisbane or Swans. After his second ACL, they’ve pulled the offers and now he’s up the creek. Now coming back to Adelaide saying ‘I always wanted to stay, I’ll take what I can get’ and sounding pretty desperate since he has no contract and no options.

I would expect we’ve allocated his money elsewhere now but would be happy for him to sign on if the contract cost is appropriate.

AFL Trade 2023: Mick McGuane on who your club could lose and where they could be headed

The upcoming AFL trade and free agency period is going to be a big one – and Mick McGuane has all the mail on who could be on the move, including a few surprises.

With the 2023 season almost over for 10 clubs, attention is quickly turning to the trade and free agency period.
AFL analyst Mick McGuane has taken a look at who the players from every club who could be targets for rivals looking to bolster their lists for 2024.

ADELAIDE

Midfielder Matt Crouch’s current form warrants another contract at the Crows.

However, given he has found himself in and out of the Adelaide side over the past two seasons, it might be worth his while to seek out another opportunity elsewhere.

With a shortage of key defenders across the competition, Tom Doedee will attract attention despite rupturing his ACL in June.

The Crows would be wise to make a lower offer for him to stay, knowing that other clubs would be hesitant to offer a lucrative long-term deal to a player who has now done both knees.

But Doedee could be a good fit for a club like Brisbane, to support Harris Andrews and Jack Payne down back.

Wingman Lachlan Sholl would have to be of interest to North Melbourne, which is desperate for an outside runner and effective ball user.

Forward Shane McAdam looks likely to stay a Crow after working his way back into the senior side over the past six weeks and playing some good footy.

PORT ADELAIDE

It is sounding more likely by the day that forward Mitch Georgiades will soon agree to terms on a new contract to stay at the Power.

He’s a young player who has great talent and complements Port Adelaide’s future plans.

Georgiades had a knee reconstruction earlier this year but has 49 senior games under his belt and is still only 21 years old, so he will bounce back.

Georgiades with 49 games for PA. Same draft as McAsey.

I'd love it if we got something for Sholl. He's never getting the shirking out of his game.

Georgiades with 49 games for PA. Same draft as McAsey.
I was guessing he might head back to the Weagles. And yes so many talented players after McAsey - clearly we are all pi$$ed and disappointed with that selection which is perhaps the only major dud in recent years. To be balanced though, it wasnt one of those complete 'write off drafts'. We did bring in Shoey, Worrell and Murray in the same year from memory who are 3 important cogs going forward. As well as the Pedlar component, perhaps our very own Macca14 or Oliver, who may be our best mid into the future.

Just imagine taking Dylan Stephens and NOT getting Pedlar which is what the obvious other choice was at the time....

The real question to ask should not be taking Stephens and missing Pedlar...again the AFL screwed us..it should have been taking Noah Anderson and missing Pedlar and McAsey. As much as I love Pedlar and he looks a ripper...Noah Anderson would have been huge fore us

They have to trade their first, that's a given. Do they desperately need points though?

If they can get the points elsewhere and move this first rounder into next year that's the best case for them.

I know they need a lot but, haven't they already made decent inroads into that?

Should offer Doods a 2 year contract and seeing we can trade him in 2024 trade period.

No way in heck he always wanted to stay, people like that sign before the bye, not declare there undying devotion the last round of the season.

I mean it must hurt to have his offer withdrawn it really would but we’ve already been bitten once in this scenario which was a disaster for the club, we should hold the whip hand now.

If we end up in that boat we could do our F1 plus 3 F2’s for their first this year and future 2nd.

It was a strange risk by Doedee,.considering he had already done one knee.

Now there is doubt about how he will perform on his return, at a time Worrell, Hinge & Michalanney have all gone past him this year.

I hope he sticks around, but he is no longer deserving to be part of our top paid players.

Also, we would have probably found a way to get Pedlar... so Anderson for McAsey.

No, too slow, panics, gives away dumb free kicks, disaster in defence.

As for future, stuck playing sanfl for 2024 before delisted.

The Neddy supporters seem to have given up hope too
Realistically he is depth

Useful in the midfield (wing), but not as a forward.
