We should go after Esava. He’s proven to be getable. Redman would be nice as well but I can’t see him leaving Essendon. Tex is almost done so another big fwd that will allow Thilthorpe and Fogerty do their thing.
There are plenty of players available every year. Just because they are doesn't mean we should.

I suspect we would benkeeping in contact with Lukosius manager regardless of his contract. Ibtjink it will depend on hiw the Suns are travelling. They need to keep us interested to help with his next contract.

I was fairly confident on Day but not anymore. I think he will stay at the Hawks, get paid more than he would with us and see where the Hawks are at when free agency comes around.

I think it's impossible to think we haven't been keen on Will Day. And that we've remained in contact. And that he is fully aware of our interest.

I can't remember who it was but I think it was Nicks last year sometime saying that the club is remaining vigilant of many players but particularly the SA lads. Will Day would definitely be one of those players.

He might be completely happy at Hawthorn but home will always be home. The Dawson and Rankine pathway is easier to follow than needing to blaze his own trail. Their apparent joy and success in coming home will be a strong factor in his decision. As will the direction of our club on field.

But at the end of the day, so long as the money is similar, he'll do what makes his mum happy. And she'll be overjoyed to have her boy back home in Adelaide. 🤞

Just extra an hour to Adelaide from Horsham.

4 hours 40 mins to Adelaide.
3 hours 30 mins to Melbourne.

Ideal Rory Laird replacement in a year or two, a real inside mid bull with a big tank. prolific ball winner and a goal kicking mid, what's not to like.

So what do people think would be the clubs order of priority for out of contract players? Will take a stab..

1. Pickett
2. Day
3. Redman
4. NWM (although apparently signed, or close to it?)
5. Stephens
6. Himmelberg
7. Graham
8. Gould

Trade target would also obviously be Hollands, but doubt GC would agree to that after last year...

Wouldn’t even bother with Graham or Gould to be honest.

I think if we were pushing for finals, or Doedee were to leave, then Graham would be a good option. Probably right re: Gould..would end up as a depth player I fear.

I think Stephens would be a good addition personally. Just starting to come into his own really. As a former pick 5, and given how we scr*wed the Swans on Dawson, cant imagine he would come cheap though, so agreed that Pickett and Day should be the priorities (Day in particular as he really fills a need...Pickett is just pure talent...)

Harry Himmelberg is pretty high on my list. Although he'll be 27 next month, you'd expect him to be a first choice player for 2024-2028 when he'd be turning 32, so I'd be very happy to throw a 5 year deal on good coin.

Very good player at both ends of the ground, 195cm, and would give us great versatility to throw him where needed.

FWD - Tex won't be there in 2025-2028.
Thilthorpe likely to be needed as a part time ruck at least.

DEF - Jury out on Butts/Murray combo down back, and if either one of those drops off, we will be seriously short on experience in the KPD department over the next few years (unless we recruit a senior head). We lack a lot of depth down there at the moment, let alone if Butts/Murray don't continue to improve as expected.

Any chance Stephens might think we had the pick to take him originally and did everything but (ie downgraded the pick). He might think he is better off staying at Sydney

Not completely sold on Hobbs

Definitely not sold on Stephens … don’t reckon he’s much better than Sholl to be honest , Cook if he gets it together has more upside than both

Noticed Cook had 5 tackles on weekend , maybe the wheel is turning

I like Harry Himmelberg but I’d say the jury is out on him as much if not more than it’s out on Murray

Murray is a very competent AFL player these days and has been for a while
