Nah its fair to make me wear that one.

Look, we've got a sample size of three games and the kicking in the first was bad, and there might well be an argument that plays out over time that we needed midfield more, but I don't really even want to defend that position any more. I went way too hard in my criticism after the Richmond game, regretted it the next day pretty significantly, and won't dig in on that position.

I actually really like the kid, he obviously loves the club and is exciting to play here and he's going to be a lot of fun to watch. I've seen people on this board get into hate spirals about talented young players because they locked themselves into some stupid criticism early, I've got no intention of doing that here. I'm going to get behind him, and enjoy it.
Mate not having a crack at you, just clarifying someone was pointing to a comment which they weren’t sure who posted, I said I think it was you but not sure , but you put your hand up and was prepared to admit your call

I like NWM but in terms of immediate impact Day and Redman would be better
Both Redman and NWM would serve the same purpose for us anyway, as a primary rebounding option to replace Smith and allow Dawson to go up the field

The main difference being that Redman wouldn’t cost us anything, while NWM would’ve cost us our seconds. NWM is very good but probably smarter to go the Redman route if possible

For the next 24 months I also think Redman would be the better player.

I’ve said it before but in 15 years of watching juniors , National U18s etc he’s (Rankine) the most talented player I’ve ever seen come through out of all of them

There’s still alot of room for development and I do think that midfield is part of that somewhere

It’s a long road that takes alot of work to extract such talent out of one’s self and be consistent with it , takes alot of drive and commitment

But if things really come together you’re looking at a Gary Ablett junior level player with a bit more ability of the freakish like the old man

It’s pretty exciting …. Only time will tell where he gets to

2-3 years ago , the players I loved watching most at other teams were Rankine and Dawson so it’s a dream to be able to watch them play for us week to week now , still can’t believe it
Did anyone else notice Nicks make a pointed remark re Rankines seemingly somewhat off mental headspace before round 2. It stuck out to me and is a slight worry and these concerns were raised when he returned home with apparent family 'issues'

what do each of them cost $ wise do you think? Redman a fair whack higher I would have thought?

I think if we were pushing for finals, or Doedee were to leave, then Graham would be a good option. Probably right re: Gould..would end up as a depth player I fear.

The Doodee situation makes it difficult. If we think he is leaving and we thought the compo would be good them it changes the strategy a bit.

So what do people think would be the clubs order of priority for out of contract players? Will take a stab..

1. Pickett
2. Day
3. Redman
4. NWM (although apparently signed, or close to it?)
5. Stephens
6. Himmelberg
7. Graham
8. Gould

Trade target would also obviously be Hollands, but doubt GC would agree to that after last year...
1.Day - midfield is of most need.
2. Redman - we need a Smith replacement & not sure Milera will make it.
3.Himmelberg - pending whether Butts rediscovers his best form, though swingman is always handy.

Haven't got Pickett as a priority because whilst a gun, not a need for what we need to give up.

Better off investing in a gun midfielder & free agents of need.

The club should be doing everything it can to entice him back, we should have drafted him in the first place

Good to just hear the CEO say the club will again be aggressive bringing targeted players of need like we have with Dawson & Rankine.
Where did he say this? And I think if he’s saying it publicly, he’s confident of landing one, otherwise he’s setting himself up for a fail

Channel 7 news tonight.

Yes, you would think we may already know the likely answer of a targeted player...

My take:

1. Pickett isn’t an option simply because he’ll choose Port if he leaves at all.

2. Day would be perfect. Highly likely he’s already agreed to terms with Hawks

3. Hollands. Has done nothing to suggest he’s the player this board blindly thinks he is.

Leaves us with a big bag of money and not a gun midfielder to spend it on.

Is there a player that we perhaps have ignored, as supporters, that the club might be into?

Totally agree. More than happy to pay him $900k (front ended) if it gets it done. Stuff the Hawks. We owe them one for Gunston. An offer that’s too good to refuse is the only option.
The thing is they could afford to do the same, if not more. They’ve not brought in any high profile recruits. It will come down to if he wants to leave the Hawks and come home. Who he thinks has a brighter future.

Dawson and Rankine should be camping out at his place
