Those doubting Titch's role, and a tasty hint of NickyD's future.

With Collingwood having a contending mindset, Mitchell says the club made their pitch to him after identifying a need to bolster their inside midfield stocks.

“Fly’s massive on playing to your strengths,” Mitchell said.

“I think he identified that my best footy is when I’m playing on the inside, that’s where I played my best footy over the duration of my career.

“That’s sort of what the pitch was, hopefully I can help complement a lot of the midfielders there – the Daicos boys (Nick and Josh), (Jordan) De Goey and (Jack) Crisp who are guys that can really carry the ball and run with the ball.

“Hopefully I can get it in their hands and help them do their work.”

Some of the commentary on here around Titch has been interesting to say the least.

Bloke is a champion, proven performer over a long period of time. Recruited to clearly do what he does best.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I can’t see this bloke going under 110 avg

I kind of agree, but historically he needs more possessions to score than other SP mids, while playing inside mid like he will for Collingwood.

It's more can he get the 35+ touches each week to score well? Does collingwoods fast crazy style allow him to do that?

He averaged 96 in an average team playing outside and half forward.

We play a high pressure game, he should tackle more, should get more contested possessions and score from intercept possessions due to high pressure.

His score involvements should increase due to fast crazy style and our intent to score.

We still like to use the shorts to change the angles, he loves getting on the end of 15-20m kicks, which means he should mark the ball more.

He will have no issues getting the ball 30+ times.

Still scored 100+ 9 times and went big 5 times when Hawks let him play more inside I can’t see him not scoring well with the role he will have at pies.

People constantly bang on about finding value picks, this is a value pick.

Have a look at his CBA's last year compared to previous years and you will see the problem. He will be back to being at the center bounces as an inside midfielder again at the pies lock him in for 110+:padlock:

👍 .....moreso, under a fast gameplan, Titch's TOG becomes more relevant than his CBA's .....I'll stand corrected, but the last couple of seasons, I haven't found a correlation between CBA's and scoring trends

In the end its the role. Stats can only tell you so much, and sometimes CBAs only tell half a story. Sometimes there is a correlation and there is not, but there are other ways to determine roles, and the comms coming out of Collingwood are enough to prick my interest.

why are you quoting Fantasy points? Bont averaged 119.7 SC in 2021
Appreciate the points quoted were Fantasy Points ....my reason for posting was to show the scoring differential of Bont, with and without Dunkley

Hunter and Dunkley out should mean more midfield time for Bont and Macrae (and Smith).

Lobb in is the big factor though, their forward line hopefully doesn't need Bont as much now.

This is the main issue now.

Bont is tempting, just feel that Macrae will return to his better years as below. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Toss of the coin on really who to start first. It’s a win either way but will probably need both by years end.

He's also another that would have been a great pick in his second year. There have been a few that did it.

If I could only pick one it would be Bont just by a nose

well Dunkley was in the side every game last year; so did Bont only average 96 in fantasy last year?

I was snooping out best 22 threads on club boards and noticed a lot of folks on the Hawks board had Stephens in the starting midfield.

Bit steep at $265k but has piqued my interest more than Newcombe. He's ready-made, wouldn't surprise me if he instantly has an impact.

Didn't seem fit enough last year when he got a few games, was pretty low TOG from memory. But you would assume Hawthorn got him intending to give him a chance. At that price he needs to go 80+ to be a good pick.

Will be watching him closely in pre-season. If he is starting in the midfield, 80+ seems very feasible IMO. Few scores around 60 last year, so doesn't have to do too much more, and should have far more opportunities to get involved.
