Didn’t see JDG’s role v Port. Was he pure mid or back to the 60/40 hybrid role. Lotta tackles but the 12 disp is a worry given the the 25 against Cats. Was there anything up with him?

I watched the whole game he was very quiet in a team that dominated was a concern. I was looking at getting him in this week thought he could be a possible M8 but it turned me off how he played at his price not worth it.

I pulled the trigger on him last week after wanting to start him initially & the cats game on back of his finals series was all I needed to see. Then he pulls out a strange one.

Will give him another week to assess.

50% CBA. Decent. Watched him closely, and it seemed like he was burnt a few times when open.
Polled 3 Brownlow votes last time vs Port, so was a little down.

But 84 SC from 12 possessions @ 66% is great result.

Bounced back last night. BOG & would’ve gone 150+ had he converted in front 0.3

Mackenzie was on fire early in the middle aswell. Did worry me a touch he played mainly forward in the last quarter though.
Hawthorn will be trying all sorts of stuff this year, expect roles to change regularly.

They will also need to ensure they get pick 1 of course, so it might not always make sense.

It didn't effect his scoring which is a good thing it shows he can score in other parts of the ground.
Mackenzie did play NORTH last week, without LDU & Simpkin ....that would have helped him

Not paying up the extra $60k or whatever it was to get Oliver instead of Bont at the start was a regrettable decision. My logic was that I could see Bont with a great start increasing in value. Anyone else in this dilemma but not wanting to waste a sideways trade now to "upgrade"? What are non-Oliver peeps doing?

Not that worried about it. I always start him but not having Laird at all last year gave me the shits. So I decided to start him instead.

To much other stuff to fix first. Rough plan is to turn hopper into Oliver when he maxes out.

Yep same. The only other midfield issue I may have stuffed up is getting Setterfield when I already had Hopper. He'll make cash and my logic there was freeing up Macrae cash to sort a very big issue out (Sav as my R2...don't ask), but maybe it was the wrong way to go about it. Macrae to LDU probably made more sense as a potential keeper. I guess I'll probably be wasting yet another trade later down the line on a midfield upgrade as I have Bont, Cripps, Green, De Goey and then it's down to Hopper, Setterfield, Ashcroft and Mackenzie.

TLDR; I suck at SC as always.

Bont owner. Brought Setterfield in last week, took the cash gen from one game and have upgraded him to Oliver. Funding assisted by the injury to Cameron, who I had down forward, and whom became Chandler.

This makes me feel better. I have been going after juicy cash gen players from the outset really, even the premos I at least gambled on ones I thought had a little bit more upside (e.g Bont vs Oliver, Green vs Parish or De Goey vs Brayshaw type choices). Same with the rucks which is why I wanted to wait and see on a decent value R2. Not the worst given all the injuries and form lapses of the guys I was considering, but I've still had to eat the 60-70 point loss that Sav being there has cost me. The 300k extra spent elsewhere in the mean time might have made that up, might not, but at least I have Grundy there now. My trades up to this point have purely been based on predicted price increases, so can maybe look to start upgrading from trades from this point.

Not much we can do at this stage. It's impossible to upgrade to him as the rookies need to moo for a few more weeks.

You could sideways a premo, but that still requires cash, so you're culling 1 or 2 rookies early. We don't have unlimited trades (yet) so using 2/3 trades to sideways a premo (ie not really improving your side) isn't a great idea imo.

If you have an injured premo it's possibly worth it, as you are forced to trade them to SOMEONE. Have to play the long game (and hope he a down game or two and drops in price)

I think I'm just salty because I lost two league games based on his 300 captain score vs my 220 odd for Cripps (after Bont VC and we all know that was an "almost" big game). But as good as he is, he surely won't be sending up those numbers every single week.

Yep, I had him in most of my preseason teams but ended up going with Laird. You never get everything right in SC. Just got to be ready to jump on when he does drop a bit.
