I'm shocked to be sitting here reading that!

2022 draft rookies yes, but plenty of value in rookie priced mature players, if they get a game. McLean, WiPhi may be a fairly common M7-M8. If Allen or King is started as a forward then they can be swapped to a hot rookie on the bubble, if someone gets off to a Gulden like start.

There seems to be heaps of value in forwards and defense too, so probably no need to put any first year bodies on field unless you have a real preference for them.

I'll be starting a fairly boring but value midfield of Oliver, Macrae, Steele, Green, Tich and Hopper although I could replace Green with Cripps or Cogs, both of whom I like.

Ashcroft will be popular, but yeah agreed.

Is Mckenzie going to be in the Hawks team round 1?

Too early to say, with the boys back Thursday. Weddle was the one creating excitement pre- Christmas, although we could use Mackenzie's ball use going inside 50. Lots of moving parts with Worpel, Stephens, Amon virtually new players and Moore, McDonald, Ward, Maginnes and Day looking for increased midfield minutes.

I'm not interested in starting him as against McLean or third year Phillips. Can easily grab him on the bubble. Same with Ashcroft.

Worpel only played 11 games last year is he really in Sam Mitchell's future plans?

Will be 24 later this month. Injured last year, possibly too bulky, and plays the same as Titch, including the helicopters inside 50, so squeezed out of the mids. Seems lighter this year and will certainly be given CBA opportunities. Did win the Peter Crimmins in 2019, when Titch was out.

You have have a few senior players.

My 2 cents on Ashcroft: although he’s being compared to other recent high scoring rookies (Rowell, Walsh, Daicos/Christ reincarnate), the latter all joined teams that had inferior midfields & lists when compared to Bris. IMO it would take something extra special for Ashcroft to ave in that 85-100 bracket, in a team that includes SC pigs like Neale and Dunkley, plus young guns like Luggage. Not saying he can’t do it, but that is the differentiating factor in my mind at this stage.

Edit: I’ll still be picking him, don’t want to start behind the 8 ball if he dominates

Many looking at value for money in the Mids. Eg - LDU, Green, Anderson, Mitchell, Butters etc. One guy has gone unnoticed in 2023 and only has a few pinching points off him. Keayes.

I like the outside-of-the-box thinking, but it's a matter of when and not if the Crows replace Keays. He's a great midfielder to have on your list during a rebuild, but at some point he will be pushed out, because I don't see him being a key figure in a midfield that pushes for finals.

He might not even be a starting midfielder come round one with Sloane back. I'd imagine they'd go with Laird, Sloane, and Berry, and that would leave Keays competing with the likes of Soligo, Schoenberg, and perhaps Rankine and Rachele, for time in the midfield.

He's not an especially damaging player so he needs to be spending the majority of the game in the midfield to score well, and I'm not sure if that's particularly likely across the whole season.
