Simpkin, running to a loose ball expecting to be a good chance to gain posession due to a combination of speed and positioning, is expected to account for another player attempting to gain posession a fraction of a second before him, stop on a dime, and think opposition player first, ball second.

Do they want to game to just be a series of rugby style scrimmages? His only other option was to not run into the contest in the first place.
Or have an otherworldly control over the force of momentum.

To 'prove' that the act was careless they have to prove that Simpkin lacked a duty of care in his approach to the football. That means Simpkin is required in that situation to assess all information in a contested situation whilst tracking the trajectory of a footy, and determining if his movement in relation to that and the football is potentially going to have a detrimental impact on an opponent. The answer to which is always yes, because there are far too many moving parts to assess in the blink of an eye to force the onus of care onto the player. Its f***ing nuts.
