ROOS’ FIGHT FOR YOUNGSTER

THE AFL is weighing up whether one of Tasmania’s brightest young talents is eligible to join North Melbourne’s Next Generation Academy less than nine months from this year’s draft.
Ryley Sanders, a 185cm tall midfielder from North Launceston, is on track to be drafted later this year after starring in last year’s under-17 futures game at the MCG on grand final day.
A neat ball user renowned for being good in heavy traffic, Sanders is boarding at Melbourne Grammar this year and playing for the Sandringham Dragons, where he was this month named in the leadership group.
Neither the AFL nor the Kangaroos would comment.
this would be good but we would also need the rule to go to top 20 instead of top 40 protected, which is being discussed also

Looking at Sheezel this year, Philactides is one I wouldn't sleep on with one of our top picks.

Close to the best kick in the draft and also one of the best athletes.

Won the 200m hurdles at the u/17 national athletics champs last year with a 26.32sec and then ran 3rd in the 110m hurdles in 14 seconds.

Could release Sheezel into another role or alternatively partner with him off half back.

Recruiters absolutely love him.
I've always liked him because of his speed, power and kicking. I knew he had an athletics background. I just googled his athletics and he has world athletics profile. I actually recall reading somewhere at one stage he was ranked in the top 10 globally for hurdles and gave up athletics last year as well as Australian team representation to play footy. Looks like he was quick at the 100m sprint as well coming 3rd in the 2021 u16 100m state final running 11.29 and holds the state record for 100m hurdles. No wonder recruiters love him. Hopefully the crows are into him.

Gee wiz, sounds like a freak athlete, and does he have skills?

He is a beautiful kick. Very well rounded player with natural footy IQ.

Biggest critiques to his game at this early stage is his physicality, inside game and one on one defending. I envisage that with his elite running capacity that he’ll end up as an elite wingman at AFL level.

Few of the Gippsland big names fired on the weekend against the Murray Bushrangers.

Zane Duursma - 24 disposals kicked 1.2 and 6 marks.

Archer Reid - 17 disposals, kicked 3.1 and 9 marks (3 contested).

A. Reid may well end up the best Key forward prospect in this draft. Especially if Caddy and Morris are sub 193cm.

Apparently Morris was very good on the weekend?

So now Code Sports is stating Callinan is North NGA and McKercher also might be, but no mention of Sanders.....

So confusing.

Surely the AFL has a list well before the start of the season.

Pala Kuma - Richmond NGA
Zaydyn Lockwood - Richmond NGA
Mahmoud Taha - Essendon NGA
Ryan Eyre - Essendon NGA
Riak Andrew - Melbourne NGA
Coren Giliam - Melbourne NGA
Illiro Smit - Hawthorn NGA
Tew Jiath - Hawthorn NGA
Luamon Lual - Western Bulldogs NGA
Deng Lual - Western Bulldogs NGA
Will Nish - Saints NGA
Jack Callinan - North NGA
Colby McKercher (possibly) - North NGA

Alex Tsia - Western Bulldogs NGA

Surely the AFL would have a definitive list prior to the start of the season.

It really is a bit of a farce.

Any nga talent in our Victorian region - I know it’s only one street but I’m still hoping

Best available as always but it'd be nice if our picks netted:

1x tall clearance mid
1x opportunist small forward
1x KPF
1x KPD

We churn through half backs like no tomorrow.

But, I'd still love a great user that could release Sheezel into a different role next year.

In addition, I think down the track the tall clearance midfielder is Goater......

I'm not confident of Perez making the grade at this stage.

Yeh, forgot to add a rebounding HBF who uses pace as their primary weapon to gain metres.

Yes absolutely! And I am absolutely on the Philactides train having only watched his miniscule highlights online. He looked physical enough? Certainly has the body to be able to make a contest and projects as having offensive and defensive qualities.

The biggest thing about our half backs is we lack a left footer who can create and hit the short kick hence we cannot exit d50 on both sides of the ground under pressure. McDonald can only hit the long ball and Logue isn't exactly a runner - Clarko will be all over it.
