He’s about to turn 25 so age wise we’d want to keep him. Ability wise we’d want to keep him.

There wouldn’t be a factor that would make him leaving any remote benefit.

He’s an RFA and we have cap space so I’d imagine we’d match any bid and just keep him regardless

I think the club would do just about anything to keep him.
Thanks gents, that sounds about right. Though l thought he was an UFA?

Hi guys, l come in peace.
Just wondering what your thoughts are on the McKay free agency situation next year.
I would expect you'd receive a round 1 compo if he we're to leave but for a player of his stature that's probably a break even scenario at best. The benefits being just salary cap and age reset.
Which way do you think your club would swing?

Arguably our most important player, he’ll get a big contract and deservedly so.

Four West Australians will be part of the 2023 AFL Academy induction camp in Melbourne this weekend.

Daniel Curtin (Claremont), Mitchell Edwards (Peel Thunder),Riley Hardeman (Swan Districts), and Koltyn Tholstrup (Subiaco), have been invited to the Academy, which features a selection of the most talented 17-year-old footballers across the country.

The 30 players selected in this year's Academy program will be eligible in the 2023 AFL Draft.

Players will participate in high performance and personal development programs throughout the 2023 season. Program content will be delivered through a mixture of face-to-face and online modules.

The program has been established to best prepare players for entry into elite football programs.

This week’s induction camp will see players engage in a range of football and education sessions.

The camp will begin with a training session at The Hangar, the home of Essendon Football Club, from midday on Friday, December 16.

This will be followed by an education session and team-bonding activity.

Really hope that Caddy ends up being 195+. He would compliment our forward line perfectly with his strong hands and physicality.

Daniel Curtin would also be perfect to set at CHB for the next 15 years. We wouldn’t have to rush him either with McKay & Logue down there.

This is my dream for the draft. We'd have the perfect future spine and uf comben comes on its a bonus

l will say this..pre Clarko there was a chance but now that Clarko is here there is no way he is leaving...he is very happy now..
l am beginning to think that North will get all players who contracts are about to expire , out of the way first and then see what is left in the kitty to offer Ben and l hope they dont skimp on the first offer like they have done in the past...seeing as they have just signed LDU till 2025..

That would be a terrible tactic - doing all the other contracts first. All those blokes who are OOC end of 23 will either earn themselves a new moderate contract on the back of a good season, or they'll be chopped. None of them are getting poached. Give McKay what he is owed and the others will fall into place.

Pick 3-6 (ours) - Lachie Ash from GWS (56 games already, OOC this year, extremely durable and will play the rebounding back for the next 12 years). Move The Goat into a full-time midfielder.

Pick 7-12 (PA) - Daniel Curtin, Archer Reid or Nick Watson

That’s paying overs for Ash. He hasn’t shown anywhere near enough to justify that sort of draft capital.

God damn there are a lot of stinkers in that bunch. We have torched so many picks between 20-40 over the years.

2014-15-16-17 really ruined our list.

2014 - Durdin (16) Neilson (25) EVW (36)
2015 - Clarke (31), Hibberd (33) Wagner (43)
2016 - Watson (34), Williams (36)
2017 - Walker (23)

Picks Torched for no return across 4 seasons: 16, 23, 25, 31, 34, 36, 36, 43.

There should’ve been at least 1-2 200 game players in that lot.

Absolutely abysmal drafting, made even worse when you look at who was available at some of those picks.

You'd think that if you had a monkey pressing random buttons to select the picks then they would have done a better job.

Its almost impressively bad.

Still a bit to play out with 2019 & 2020
too. At this stage none of Mahony, Comben, Perez or Lazzaro are sure bets to be long term players.

That’s paying overs for Ash. He hasn’t shown anywhere near enough to justify that sort of draft capital.
Yeah I agree somewhat, on the surface it looks like that, but the reality is that his trajectory is nearly identical to LDU, Rozee, De Goey, Cerra, & Gaff.

Maybe the PA death-ride pick would make more sense to us (~8 to 12) but Ash would have to want out and specifically nominate us. Even then GWS would probably want a swap of future 2nd & 3rds..

He’s got so much upside, 56 games of experience already, quick, smart, durable, leadership and silky skills. He’s already had a 35 touch game in his second season and I reckon he would thrive under Clarko.

I’m very confident Comben will have a 150+ game career. He’s got the required skill set to thrive as a KPF.

The other three have legitimate question marks.

Perez due to his knee, and the other two due to a lack of discernible elite traits.
