I can't believe we have 3 more weeks of this merry-go-round speculation . Surely most teams would have their draft boards ready by now.

If true, what is our motive? Just to get another pick in the top 10 or do we have a specific target in mind?

Possibly targeting O’Sullivan? But there is no guarantee he’s still on the board. It seems like they are trying their hardest to get rid of one of our first rounders. Might have someone penciled in a 57 and they only want to pick 5 players?

I hope/imagine we rate the top eight (excluding academy and f/s types) above 15 and 17 combined.

Just take Sanders at 4. Take one of Curtin, O’Sullivan, Leake or Caddy with the upgraded pick.

I’m a Casey supporter coz I grew up there… When Duursma played for them in round 18ish? this season just gone, he took one of the best marks I’ve ever seen. Absolutely flat tit, incredible reach, one grab with pressure. It was breathtaking. The dudes hands go way beyond “strong overhead” or whatever. Then, you look at all the other games he’s played, he looks like one of the best marks of the footy for his age I’ve seen. Would absolutely love him in the royal and white.

Three spuds and a bad concussion case in that top 10 and that was a pretty good year. Tis a lottery even with 2 & 3.

As of the start of this draft, all 1st round picks will be on 3 year contracts so players can't invoke the JHF rule at the end of their 1st year or pay overs at the end of the 2nd year looking for lucrative 3rd or 4th year extensions.
So unless a player is truely homesick in their 1st year, they'll go to their new club on the same standard 3yr contract as he left his previous club...be very interesting if a drafted player from now to whenever tests this new CBA agreement.

And CT slid to pick 46 - mainly because of his reputation as a poor trainer and lack of professionalism - a reputation that has been confirmed 100% at NMFC and why he won't be on an AFL list past this contract.

.......Taylor was drafted by North Melbourne with pick 46 in the 2018 national draft. He was often cited as a draft "slider", which The Age attributed to clubs' concerns over his commitment at training.....

There are no apparent concerns about Duursma's training/commitment/professionalism hence he will be pick 4 draft selection.

There are alot of talented young players running around kicking a football - not all have the professionalism of a Bailey Scott hence they dont make the grade. CT is one of these underachievers.

In addition Duursma is 2-3cm taller with a huge vertical leap so much less of a tweener than CT.

I still don’t know what position CT plays or is good at. Seems like someone who is happy for the title of AFL player but never wants much else from life

Thats right. The only comparison Kercher has with Merret is under 30m. Merret is arguably the best field kick in the comp. Soft as a bucket of snot and pulls Natsnuis hair. But other than the 30m dinky kicks, thats about as far as I would go in comparing mckercher to merrett

Probably Edwards with his contested marking. Goad will be a handful on the lead because I’d his speed and reach but he’ll be a slower burn.

There have been some insinuations on the draft forum that some off-field issues have led to him sliding down clubs' draft boards. Any idea what is up with that?

I haven’t heard anything that’s concrete. It’s as though a club in the west is playing funny buggers.

The Geelong pick puts us in the Caddy, O’Sullivan, Curtin range with Reid, Mckercher, Watson, Sanders, Duursma the expected top 5.

Sure would be. Ideally the Hawks to take Watson (not Curtin) so Dogs don’t have the choice between Watson and Sanders.

Multiple guys? Murphy, Schoenmaker, A.Reid and the rucks? Plenty of ruck options at those picks, but who knows who will be available out of Murphy, Schoenmaker and A.Reid? Or if we actually rate them? Schoenmaker isn’t even regarded as a first round talent and it has been reported that we are not interested.

Curtin is widely regarded as a top 6 talent. It ain’t much of a reach to use pick 4 on him.

I’m not sure if he’s a kpd or a tall flanker, but you’re right - no one outside of BF would consider Curtin to be a reach.

I heard this conversation began with a desire to include #8 in a package to get #1. I am assuming (and hoping) that’s no longer an option given the Sanders consideration, although 2, 3 and 8 for WC1 and F1 would be a blast.

If O’Sullivan is not the goal with 8, then I can only assume we are confident in picking up a Murphy/ Dawson with 15-18.

Premierships are won by teams with great defenses. Have a look at ours.

Best available is just a slogan. If used as a rule, list management barely exists. It becomes more about chance - based on where your picks fall.

You assume all clubs rank players in the same spot

I’ve still got this sick feeling we are going to sell the farm for Reid and WC will end up with their dream draft of Curtin, Hardeman, Collard & Edwards (Picks 3 15 18 & 23)

That could be ours along with McKercher at pick 2.

If they do they have played this very well. Can’t begrudge them of that……but if we end up with Reid and McKercher we can’t be unhappy.

I do think 3,15 and 18 is insane though. Hope we don’t do that.
Our key is two of top 3 picks doesn’t change.

It would be a blast for WCE! Paying way overs for just one player. He might be ahead in development now, but once the rest get into an AFL system he’ll drop back to the pack. No thanks, take 2 & 3 to the draft and pick the best talent. With the rest picks can trade em to improve. Otherwise run with them.
