There was no way there was 14,000 at the Titans match on the Gold Coast would lucky to be ten thousand!
The desperate fools on LU are raving the RL is running down the AFL.

Where? Memberships NO TV Ratings NO Sponsorship monies NO and Crowds NO!

I am guessing there is enormous cognitive dissonance due to the impending massive gap in TV revenues

Fair enough, so highlighting the ridiculousness of NRL and soccer fans criticising Giants and Suns crowd counts is not OK?

context is everything.

I just found it strange, continuing with the theme of hypocrisy, that this guy would be in a position to complain given I am pretty sure he is the one that wants to remind everyone that AFL is not an international sport with every second post.

Given its not really every second post - Im almost certain he just wants to make sure we dont forget the wider picture. And that really could be the theme of this thread.

Anyway, best of luck setting a coherent and consistent standard for a "discussion of other sports" thread where any comparison with the AFL is considered "code wars"

Comparison and discussion can be had without it descending into a farce by keeping it civil and not playing the man. People bringing up other sports arent trolls.

OK, well I will see how I go with comparison and discussion.

Personally, I watch and enjoy other codes but tend to look at "sports industry" aspects through an Australian football lens. I don't really think that is "code-war".

At the risk of giving egg-sucking advice, it might be better to have a thread where you explicitly can't mention the AFL (cue john cleese) and have another that is explicitly open to comparison. People can self select then

The problem is, you read the crap people write on other forums, pages, and websites and then tar us all with the same brush here using it as some sort of justification to have a laugh at those codes. Is it really that hard to post in any other of the available threads on this sub-forum which are free for all for anyone who wants to compare the codes?

This should be a place where posters who like other sports can come and not feel they're out of place and likely to be called names or questioned about their own love of Australian Football.

this. so much.

I don't go on LU or 442 or whatever the other forum is. I don't care for it. But it gets tiresome reading some of the slanders towards the other sports which are not AFL

That was ten years ago. At about the same time investigations BY THE AFL showed that we were fudging our particpation data in NSW. I dont believe either thing happens intentionally now.

I do think theres an issue with GWS/Suns memberships and gate reports. There might be with others in other codes, but i cant get financials to compare it with for ssome like Manly and Gold Coast.
On that, I know the Blundstone Attendances in the mid-2010s were inflated.

Not just the low crowds but all crowds. That includes both AFL and BBL. The former chairman of Cricket Tasmania(Nick Cummins) confirmed as much on Twitter a long time ago.

You can tell this by how much the Blundstone crowds have dropped since 2017-2018. The facts are that between 2010 and 2017, there was only one crowd lower than 10K. There has been a lot since. The other is that there are 3 crowds at 16-17K mark during 2010-2017. The highest since then is only 14.3K. There is a lower capacity now but that gap should not 2K people. I am fairly certain there has not been a crowd over 15k in either cricket or AFL since mid-2010 but I may be wrong there.

That's fair enough, you don't deserve to be tarred with the same brush as the league nuffies that have been mentioned above.

It doesn't appear that there are other threads on this sub-forum "which are free for all for anyone who wants to compare codes". It actually seems to me that this is precisely the appropriate thread for that purpose. Happy to have it set out otherwise (i.e. a rule that the AFL shouldn't be mentioned in this thread)

But surely if somebody is likely to be offended by somebody making comparisons with code X with the AFL, shouldn't they just not participate in a forum where there is likely to be AFL fans making comparisons with other codes? I've noticed there are forums for other codes on the big footy forum.

Probably worth reflecting that others accused of code warring for having an AFL bias on a sports industry sub-forum on an AFL forum are probably going to be annoyed as you are when you're having your affection for Australian football questioned

The AFL crowd thread. AFL taking over NRL thread are two threads where you can do as you please in relation to comparisons.

The subject line of this thread is "2023 Non AFL Sports Industry Discussion" nothing about comparing with other sports, just a non-AFL discussion thread.

I don't really care if you and the others want to compare the other sports crowds and ratings, the amount of Pacific Islanders who play the sport, Rugby League ratings, but it would be nice if we had at least one thread where you didn't.

My advice, not that anyone's under any obligation to listen to it, is to calm down.

If there are people spouting nonsense on another forum somewhere, set yourself apart from them by not doing the same thing here.

Be less Walter and more Dude.

O.K. I really think, if the dedicated rugby league sub forum doesn't meet your needs of a "safe space" in a broader AFL forum, and you feel you really need a dedicated thread on the sports industry sub forum where you specifically can't mention the AFL or indeed any issue that might be sensitive to the feelings of people who primarily support another code, then you probably should lobby the relevant moderator to have that explicit in the thread's rules. You are a moderator no, you could have that conversation?

I agree that there is no value in people banging on about league unlimited and it is antagonistic treating every league fan like they came from there.

Don’t worry about it. Do as you please.

not sure if this is the relevant thread but was genuinely surprised at the 16,000+ figure posted for last nights rugby league game ...... clicked over to check the score during an afl break and caught a few wide angle shots of the upper stand (sideline and both ends) ...... if that was 16,000 then ill force myself to listen to a full abba record

[edit] mentioned my surprise on the league unlimited twitter account and was blocked within 5 minutes (just enough time for some guy called ritchie grub(???) to give me a serve :drunk: )

Great finish to that game. 16k looked about right. At worst it was a lot closer to the mark than 8k for GWS and 13k for GC last week. It happens. Get over it.

I just dont care what people say they think the crowd is for either code.

Strongly disagree that it either "looked about right" or it was "closer to the mark" than the GWS or Gold Coast crowds

It's a worthy discussion for as long as people want to obsess over GWS and Suns alleged attendance inflations

Beyond that, always funny when people weigh into a discussion and then finish with "get over it"

Its one of the worst along with people who claim to know what share of the crowd were their clubs supporters. You dont know, but you have feelings. How the hell is that going to be a constructive discussion.

It is a nothing match with little promotion. Will get killed in the TV ratings by the NRL/AFL

I honestly didn’t know there was an international on tonight. They have a real issue with promotion.
