Defence is not a bad line in which to have a shy at the stumps with a random POD like Williams.

Think we will all be doing fix up trades in that line early doors anyway as the premiums are so unreliable outside of Docherty.

You will be on tenterhooks every day though for the random injury news which sucks.
I think Brayshaw is pretty reliable. Even as a defender he scores pretty well and he's fairly durable. Has played 107 games in the last five seasons, which by calculations means he's missed six games in five years.

Yeah agreed, currently D1 for me. There's just a slight worry about his pre season and some little niggles that have been reported.

I like Smith. He's younger than Macrae and I think he'll see more time on ball winning contested possessions. Started really well last season.

Petracca I low-key really like. I listened to one podcast which believed his career will go down the same way Martin's has, but I don't see it. Richmond tried to diversify, but I think Melbourne still use Petracca as a prime mover, and even if he plays forward a bit he's still capable of scoring highly. He maybe doesn't average 110, but maybe 105? He had the weird sickness mid season which knocked him around. He might be like... the 10th? Around the 10th highest scoring midfielder which may not be enough. I think people might fade him and wait for him to get mid/fwd status and pick him as a forward if he ends up playing more forward. If he plays midfield mainly he'll be in the top eight midfielders for sure.

As for McLuggage, he'll be a POD. He's 24 though and and has Dunkley competing for points.
I actually rate the Petracca pick. He’s in ripping nick according to Melbourne track watchers. He’s very durable. Like you said, if you take out that patch of games where he was sick last year he actually averages around 110 which firmly puts him in top 8 talk. Loves a tackle as well.

For me, selecting him comes down to whether or not I see more value in other top guys. Currently have the Smith and Macrae but very tempted to shift to Petracca for that extra touch of savings

I have Smith and Macrae too but Bailey will need to get on the track again very soon for me to stick with that combo. Missed the match sim again today apparently. 11 has kindly posted something about it in the Mids thread.

I was avoiding Petracca because he hurt my scores in that patch a lot last year, especially when my guys beat them in Melbourne and then he hurt my feelings by being BOG almost when they beat my guys over here last season - a week after I finally traded him out :). He's a good pick I think.

If you take out that weird three game stretch where he seemed to be playing sick, he averages 107.4. That's... about top eight? I don't think he's captaincy material but I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the top eight. Reasonably priced and has a goodish bye.

Also started very strongly last year so if he repeats that he'll build some fat in to any down game he might have a little later.

Which do you like better of:

Touk + LDU vs Petracca + Bont

I feel like potentially Touk takes a month or so to fully hit his straps, but is most likely to average the highest of the four over the season. LDU has the most questions marks with the smallest sample size, plus a new coach and maybe more players competing for his midtime. Trac & Bont could both start with a bang but over the season will likely spend some time forward...

I'm thinking:
Touk 115-120
Trac 110
Bont 110
LDU 100-105

Touk and LDU for me, number 1 option and riskiest option but highest upside

Left or right side

Yeo | McKenna
Macrae | B Smith (can switch between either of these two)
Worpel | LDU
English | D Cameron
I like the left side, with personal preference of Baz over Macrae. I think English over Cameron makes it a clear win, based on the word that Cox is still in the ruck mix at the Pies. Still don't trust Worpel yet though - would be worth having a backup plan for him

I think GWS change of game plan makes it easier to pass on Cogs for now.
I am fading especially when the coach said no cheaper possessions, we need a harder tougher agressive edge.

English vs ROB vs Cameron to partner Roma in the rucks?

See English as likely R1-2 this year but not sure he holds much value as a starter. Cameron might, but do we trust the Pies' ruck split for 2023? According to Tom Doodee on the Traders pod, ROB won't have this concernn with Tex likely to ruck when the ball is deep in the F50 and Thilthorpe to play as primarily as a fwd.

Can ROB score well enough early to allow for a flick up to English around R5....

I'm currently on ROB just to have some pricier bench rooks. Think when the relevant $200k guys get named though that will change. Would love to see Pies round 1 with DC sole ruck with McStay back up and Goggles McGee in the VFL

My personal POV is this is an excellent choice ....I mean, what could go wrong ....a courageous pick, that shows your ability to not follow the pack, but your own instincts .....hat off to you sir !
