Whats his injury?

That sucks..i didnt expect to see him much if at all this year but we will need him for 2024..we need ceglar to stay fit this year to keep pressure on rhys as we are thin if rhys loses form or gets injured.
Club hasn’t said anything. My understanding is a “small fracture” in foot. Not great for young ruckman who needs a lot of conditioning work. As you say this is more about 2024 so I reckon they will be super conservative building him back. Hearing more likely 15 weeks but would not be surprised if we don‘t see him playing full vfl games until second half.

Just wish him the best. All I hear is that he is a fantastic kid with huge potential…

I agree. Those 4 maybe were “fragile” coming into 2022 (from a fan perspective) but the club backed Kolo strongly over the last 2-3 years and can’t imagine that changing…. And miers they gave him chance after chance and he repaid them…. While Atkins and Zuthrie just took it to the next level. all are surely part of the clubs future - and barring injuring (or really extended form slump) they will be in best 22 most weeks

So when you get into it we have maybe a handful of “fragile” positions but actually all of them had great finals series - so maybe none are immediately at risk. Coming into 2022 we had Higgins and Dal who were definitely question marks - we don’t have any of those this year - and a whole bunch of questions (including the names in this post)

Those guys will all be vulnerable again if they dont keep their level up (keeping their level up kept them in) with the depth we have. Its just statistically likely that 2 or 3 older players will drop out and younger players will become best 22 in their spots..the players know that so it should keep motivation up.

One can almost hear Peter Paul and Mary singing Puff the magic dragon.....

still better than hearing that all the kids are years away or what ever.

Whyte intercept marking? Do they have a def role in mind for him?
Not convinced that these “track watchers” in training would be able to tell the difference at a distance between the blonde boys so it could have been Whyte…or mitch…or dempsey…or zuthrie!

having said that maybe they might try him off half back in VFL? But the early hype in 2022 came from him looking the goods on ball

I agree with you-thats not great as in the vfl this year it was clear his endurance needs work we dont need him off legs. See how he goes if it interrupts a lot of his 2023 we may need to trade in another ruck at years end as i doubt we have cegs past this year.
Short term we just need rhys and cegs to stay fif so we dont have to ruck sav again. MSD ruck option is always there if we feel we need to.

Yeah but we are stacked for onballers now and need to add clohesy and simpson into vfl mids.
Our vfl defence was almost entirely non listed players so may as well try guys like whyte there to give them better role exposure.

I see whyte is a back pocket type in the Bews mould so good to hear he’s doing intercept marking training.

Kitcat: Most clubs have been aware of this for sometime but you have to have the depth & cattle to be able to do that, which is no easy task, even then it's still a balancing act for most clubs, even if you have good depth, the depth has to be good enough 'to keep winning games' because if the club starts to lose games, then the psyche and rotation strategy can change pretty quickly as you cannot win 'the FLAG' from outside the 8 or more importantly missing the 'top 4'. The other problem that can arise is having injuries to players that you do not have great depth, especially KPF, KPB or ruck or you simply have a poor run of injuries to a few elite players. Fortunately for Cats we have most bases covered with SDK probably the least we could afford to lose, not that we cannot cover him but having Blicavs go back to cover will really hurt our on-ball and round the ground structure and advantage.
That is what I said but in a tenth of the lines.

I'd like to see him stay on ball, but he played half back with the Falcons IIRC and it's an area of weakness in the VFL.

For sure there's a bit in what you say PzBlinky: suggestion appeals greatly and I'm all for it on the provision the potential 'young gun' holds his own. If so, then yeah go for it, as it'll be a win, win scenario both in 2023 as we strive to win B2B with a fresher Cameron and Tomahawk in the critical run home in second half of season but also the long term future as you say with the 'young gun Neale' showing all the signs of being one of our two bookends along with SDK the other for the next decade and beyond, if this was to be done successfully, then we at Catland would truly be blessed. GO CATTERS !

Exactly - I see it as a situation with very little downside. Neale gets a good run to show us what he can do and if he holds his own, then sign him up! And if he doesn't, then the coaches can push him back to VFL to continue development or make a call about his future.

I think it's the "well, he's looked great in the VFL but no idea about whether it translates to seniors" questions that both the team and fans would want answered this year.

New jumper numbers

#4 Tanner Bruhn
#12 Jack Bowes
#13 Jhye Clark
#19 Phoenix Foster
#21 Osca Riccardi
#31 Oscar Murdoch
#34 Oisin Mullin
#36 Ollie Henry
#40 Ted Clohesy
Jumper 13 wasn’t in use last season, Parsons had 34 in 2020 but Mullin took it last year before deciding to stay at home, 14 held in abeyance for this year or no one was game to take it, and the only surprise is OHenry going for 36 instead of lower. Perhaps solidarity with his rookie draft brother.

I assume henry wanted a locker near jack (hence 36 or 40 for him) otherwise i would have expected him to pick a lower number.

Mullin keeping 34 from last year makes sense.

I am genuinely sad about 31-i do like murdoch but 31 hasnt had the run it deserves since jpod-been with a lot of late picks and delistees.
I would have hence liked it to go to clark but im a realist hopefully murdoch becomes a rookie success story.

Sounds like moons had a fair impact on osca hence he picked 21 (be interesting to know if he would have taken his dads no had it been available).

Bruhn in 4 isnt surprising considering who got him here.

This time last year - Geelong were sitting on the bones of their aarse - absolutely demolished in a PF - and most supporters thought the next flag was along way off

Now the Cats are reigning Premiers - and Overflowing in riches - all these new recruits and early draft picks etc

But like they say - its never as good as it appears - and never as bad as it seems

So it will be interesting what happens in 2023

Irrespective of all these new recruits - the biggest thing Geel has got going for it ( compared to virtually every other club in the competition )- is that over a long period of time - many seasons - so it is a very good mean average statistically speaking - is that Geel each year just win alot of games of football - thats it
