Jack Bowes - defender? Esava Ratugolea - forward?

Either our media team knows something we don't... or vice versa.
Probably haven't updated the graphics from last year - that department may still be on holidays

I am getting second half reports but I understand he is living up to excitement machine - but a long way to go which isn’t surprising…. a little out of control/lost coming out of backline. But fast and “fun”
I'm getting a bit more than that. He's a likely round 1 starter he's impressed that much.

I admit I haven’t enquired as much specifically on him so you might be more up to date. I just got early impressions. (Certainly they are happy)

I would think right now there are quite a number of players who could start round 1, that wont have spots…only so many of those to go around - which makes this so exciting…and vfl

It's preseason, Wrong thread perhaps, but as you know, I'm a Jack Henry appreciator+++- do you see him at all as captain material? Maybe not 23, but what about after that?

I'm not sure he's captain material at the minute.

Players of Toby's size often have injury problems early. Their bodies are still maturing and generally they reach their physical maturity later than smaller players. I would normally expect them to reach their peak a couple of years later than others. We need to be patient.

I agree with all that although i will say theres a trend of young rucks and kpfs failing to be the 200gamers they could be because their bodies cant handle the physical load and repeat injuries-hopefully conway doesnt get that.

Correct, they were playing games.

As much as I want Conway playing and developing as fast as possible, I gotta be realistic that he is going to be a long term investment and as stupid as it sounds now... hopefully he is carving it up and well into his prime in 8 years... That's how long I'm talking (hopefully it's much faster than that though).

All this just makes TDK look a very likely option for us for next year as Conway develops and Stanley/Ceglar start to look towards hanging them up.

I say this assuming that Neale is being looked at as more of a key forward and Sav as a key back.

We absolutely need to get a decent middle age ruckman on our list one way or another.

Agree but good news is the ruck merry go round happens every year and each clubs 3rd ruck is usually open to moving for regular games elsewhere so we will have trade in options.

They have both been playing in backline in training. Had 2 quarter match sim today and both were on the “a/blue” team - in defence

Did the old guys play match sim or sit out?

I know Bowes has played off the HB line with the Suns but thought I'd heard plans to push into the midfield group (could be wrong).

Glad to hear Esava's training as a KPD - Neale gets first (and second... and third) crack as the next KPF.

I believe this is one of the marks that Egan was referring to in his video update on Ollie. Certainly testing the boy out in a scratch match with those three defenders!!

As soon as i saw that picture - a memory bell went off in my brain

Back in the 1960s and 1970s - the Melb morning paper - which i think back then was just known as The Sun

But once a week - they would have a picture like that in the paper - but from an actual game - and they would hide/delete the ball - so the football wasnt shown - so there was a weekly competition - you would cut out that picture /coupon - and you had to put a cross with a pen - where you thought the ball exactly was - and then post it into them - their was a prize winner each week etc

Pretty simple/uncomplicated society back in those days - and that was a hugely popular competition and it ran for years

Ha

Ha. That brings back memories. Reckon it was still going into the 80s and maybe even 90s (we are getting old so decades merge!)

Plus I was actually wondering where the heck the ball is. Seems like SDK had given a huge effort to get into contest but I reckon he realised he wasn’t going to make it just as photo was taken. I understand Dempsey took the mark over Stewart so with that information it had to be that he had a run and jump and Stewart got caught under the ball - and it is coming from behind Sav…so I reckon it is somewhere almost directly over Stewart meaning he had to prop and Dempsey jumped over??

That is exactly what we had to do with that paper photo - use imagination and scenarios to put a dot on the paper. I used to play it with my dad and see who was closest

Great post!

I got patchy feedback and I only enquired about the new guys. But the impression was it was pretty much a full complement minus Hawke - although assume a couple of others might have been out. As you can piece together from various photos both Sav and SDK have been trialled together in the backline with Stewart so one of the other talls might not have played back there? The “blue team - A” also had Jack B on it and playing out of defence mainly…

The other interesting bit is that the orange team were actually competitive. Track watcher said this did not happen at all in 2021 (basically couldn’t get it out of the middle at all!) and is reflective of more depth through MF where the second team could compete with first. Blue team won but pretty good hit out. 2 short quarters

44 is not Stewart but who ever it is, they are built like a brick sh-thouse

I'm pretty sure that's Stewart, unless someone else has gone out and got the same set of tattoos as him in tribute to the #44 - plus the strapping on the left shoulder & right wrist is what Stewart does in games also

He does look like he's tanked up a little since last year so can absolutely see why you wouldn't think it was him.. hardly looks like him at all particularly with his flowing locks tucked up under his hat
