Are we? I don’t think we’re being underrated at all. Everything I’ve seen has us as either premiership favourite or close to.

Late reply sorry, but most of the ladder predictions (both personality driven and stats driven ie squiggle) have us bottom half of the 8.

There’s a lot of writing articles like “gee the lions look good next year”, but when it comes to quantifying predictions we seem to be firmly in the 6th-8th range for some reason.

Why not open the can of worms up a bit further while we're here... Did we fall into a similar trap with Daniher in 2022 and Andrews in 2021?

Different situations. Daniher was a calculated gamble - when he went down it was either send him for surgery immediately and get him back maybe just before finals, or give him a few weeks to rehab and hope for the best. We went the latter and unfortunately it didn’t pay off. Can’t really blame them though because who would we have replaced him with?

Similar with Andrews, with Gardiner out who would we have replaced Andrews with?

Difference with Lyons is that we had plenty of serviceable inside mids waiting in the wings, namely Dev

I have no idea what is happening right now, I still don't know how he can lose bulk and retain physical strength that seems to be against all known laws of physics.
If you can't work out how a body can be leaner, less bulky and yet retain strength then I don't suggest you delve into the laws of physics.

Just because someone is Morbidly_Obese doesn’t automatically mean that they are stronger than someone at a healthy weight.

Darcy Fort. The bloke we did replace him with, while he was out.

Also Fullarton started looking and playing much better as a KPF at reserve level.

Payne and Lester.

Anyone who loses lean muscle mass is not going to be stronger or even retain the same strength, that is physically impossible. I dare say Lyons wasn't running around at a high body fat percentage, so most of any weight he loses is going to come in the form of muscle.
It's certainly not uncommon for older players especially to drop weight in order to move around the ground better and while they still might be strong for their position they're not going to be as strong as they would be if they had the extra lean muscle. How this affects their overall game remains to be seen but as an immutable law less lean muscle mass = less strength.

My Christmas message - Take the bloody 'LID' off, use it as a frizbee and throw it in the bush we are going all the way. don't worry what the southern AFL writers and commentators predict, we are the only top team that most substantially improved during the trade/draft period, the cup is our and the southerners will be saying that by mid season.

Most seem to have Geelong going back to back, but that simply undervalues leadership on the field, Selwood is gone and I rate him close the the great Michael Voss, whom lifted teams and carried them on his back. None of the other top teams have plugged specific gaps, recruited on needs, so well as the Lions have.

We are the boys from Brisbane town, and well will be singing that song after the last Saturday is September is done and dusted.

Merry Christmas all, it's been a great year, travel safe, celebrate well.

I think the potential growth in our list has gone under the radar too.

Coleman, Rayner, bailey should all be better again in 2023.

Mccluggage and Starcevich are both guns but haven't been in the AA 22 but could be.

One of Willmot, lohman, Prior, Robertson could break out.

I don't see how we don't win the Grand final by 80 points.

He didn’t say less lean muscle, he said less bulky.

Of course you can.

Yep I agree with this. Well kinda. When I was weight training I was pretty much an easy gainer. Picture in your head a cross between Frank Zane & Serge Nubret in terms of my physique ;)

I had mates who would make noticeble gains in strength, but very little in terms of size & weight or change in physique. I have no doubt they did in fact put on muscle, but no where near as much as I would for the similar increases in strength. We were all similar heights too.

Strength gains also come from recruiting more muscle fibres during a movement - a person with bulk muscle fibres might only recruit 60% of available fibres, while the skinny guy recruits 90% of available.

Explosive training is all about improving recruitment and coordination of muscle fibres to increase strength.

If my MIL had her way that would be my BIL's name. MIL was quite determined apparently. FIL had to put his foot down.
There was a mediocre race horse in Perth named My Richard, he had a cult following and people loved screaming " come on my d...K!!' while he's galloping haha
