I don't think there was a lack of effort. It can look that way when confidence is low. He just didn't believe he could beat May in the end. Even the best players in the comp will look average when confidence is low

Charlie definitely kept trying until the very end

In fact when Docherty kicked it to Acres for the winning goal, Charlie had actually managed to get himself open and clear (finally) and would have marked it and kicked the winner had Docherty not also seen Acres open in the goalsquare. Charlie was 35 metres out directly in front and open space between him and Doch so was an easy 20 metre pass for Doch. It was one of the rare times Charlie was open all game.

Amazing when you think about it - GWS were bottom4 and Carlton was bottom5 at the same time 12 games ago....
First person says it can turn quickly, I will hunt you down and touch your face in the dark.

the problem was for most of the game he was taking on May, Lever and a few others....

No Harry, no Martin to take the heat off him....

it was quite bizarre that period around the Acres goal.

Where were all the Dees' defenders?

Charlie has to stand up and prove he can deliver when the chips are down. Two poor finals from him, and his lack of effort in the last quarter vs May nearly cost us the game.
You do relise Charlie had 2 ans sometimes 3 players on him yeah...
This allows others to get of the chain ..
Will make a big difference when H comes back .

Hubris says they were expecting it to go forward and score. Shows you their mindset, which in my mind - between the fake tough guy dog acts throughout and sooking - led to their downfall (aside from not taking chances).

No Harry, no Martin and a very out of form Cunningham. And against the toughest defence unit in the comp with Charlie putting it all on his shoulders for 6 quarters and a few weeks since Harry got injured and concussed.

Coaches just need to round up Charlie and Harry this week and let them know they just need to play your part. If Marten, Motlop, Owies can bob up with a few and our mids and wings can assist... even consider throwing TDK, McGov, Cripps here and there forward to spice things up..

Main thing is if a mid is streaming in and in close enough range ignore the bombing to the heads of Charlie and Harry and take the shot. I'd much rather Charlie and Harry lead wide to get their opponents away from the square and Marten stays back with the smalls.

They were in disarray - Weitering switched to the other side and while the Dees defenders were setting up around the 40 metre line Hollands decided to play on fast and not kick it to Docherty who was 80 metres out from goal but kicked to the space ahead of Docherty which meant that Docherty could take a bounce and kick it from 55 metres out and hence over the heads of May and Lever and the rest of the Dees.

By the time Acres marked the ball we had four Blues who could have walked into the open goal - Acres, McGovern, TDK and Kemp.

So having Docherty kick it from 55 out rather than 75-80 out made all the difference in the end.

The last 2 minutes of play will never get old!

They were there but blocking space for Charlie to lead to, their big mistake was not having 16 of their players flooding back into defence. But they were buggered, case in point when Kennedy outruns a few of them to get his boot on the ball for the final behind.

Take the initiative and let Brisbane focus on Charlie and Harry and use them as decoys at times.

It can turn quickly Thy.

Nothing is as bad as it looks.

Nothing is as good as it looks unless it's Aphrodite .

I agree with the lack of effort in one contest in the last. It wasn't good enough from Charlie but, and it's a big but, he has been murdered by lack of forward support and being triple teamed. It will be different this week.:)

We better be wearing our Navy Guernsey this weekend. The white just wasn't the same.

Will be a sea of navy descending on the Gabba. They are quietly pissing themselves though won't admit it.

I've said it many times - I hate the white. It's not us and even worse this particular jumper.
If we have one that has to be white - use the one with more Navy Blue we had many moons ago. It was the best of the worst.
I can't find it but it had navy blue sides, etc.

Chasing Charlie who was out…this is what happens when you lower your eyes and look for options.
Charlie’s THE man, but he can also be an awesome decoy

Are you thinking of something like this?

Of course, we could go the indigenous jersey (although I think previous years were better). But my favourite away kit is:

That away jumper is the best when you can’t wear full navy…we should be in navy top and white shorts this week though

sitting about 30 out.. mcvee missing the spoil on Doch and over shooting, allowed Doch to get out the back and run 20 metres to pump it to goal square. If hed been held up Doch wouldve given dees defenders tiem to set up.
