This is what I've emailed to Vossy.

I'd give my middle testicle for Jsos to get up, but it doesn't appear likely. I'm going to back Kennedy in after a blow out last week...I just feel his big body, strong mark, long hoof and accurate set shot are what's needed in finals, even if he isn't 100% aerobically.

Marchbank to Hipwood and McGovern to stand Rayner.

I'm oddly calm and confident about this one. I like that we are on the road after two hugely emotional weeks and can build some siege mentality, and I think quality ins will give a subliminal boost. Blues by 19.

I’ve never had a shoulder dislocation but I have had ball joint move out of socket enough to cause the sharp pain and dead arm feeling.

Can only imagine the pain dislocation would cause and how doc was feeling

I can’t remember how soon after the event I started strengthening the rotor cuffs. But they really help.

I have no idea but For doc I assume it’s a case of resting it this week until the lions game.
I had a dislocation during a game which was ok.
The next day it was excruciating !

Liked for 'long hoof' ( and some other stuff;))

My only concern if we win this and the pies win, I couldn’t stand losing to them in a GF

I've mentally prepared myself for this scenario.

We are positioned way better than them for 2024 and beyond. If we were offered Pies beating us this year but we win at least 2 of the next 5, what would we do? The answer would vary, and I'd need alcohol and thinking time, but maybe...

Jordan Boyd hasn't played since round 15 and hasn't touched the ball more than 14 times in a game all year.

I like the pace that he would offer but is he a player that appears to be better than he actually is because he hasn't been playing?
Yeah I understand all that. But just keep going back and forth of leaning towards playing one more quick. 🤔

Seeking the advice of those conspiracy-minded posters on here who reckon the biased AFL tells corrupt umpires how to slant their rulings to get the results the AFL wants. What's your take on this week? Seems to me that everything points to us being favoured:

- If Pies beat GWS, there's the prospect of a Blues/Pies GF on which the AFL would make absolute bank

- If GWS beat Pies, there's the prospect of a terribly unexciting Bris/GWS GF which the AFL would be desperate to avoid

Either way I'd have thought the triple-encrypted messages would be going out to each of the umpires this week: BLUES TO WIN STOP YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO STOP THIS MESSAGE WILL SELF DESTRUCT IN TEN SECONDS STOP

Brisbane won't like it, but sucks to be them I guess. With the AFL so clearly in our corner, it's the rare week where there won't be the slightest cause for any Blues supporter to criticise or question the umpires' integrity when a call goes against us.

...... right?

Well….as long as number 22 doesn’t come near our game I give that an extreme micro slight chance of happening

Like Boyd, but no chance. Fish is a genuine chance, excellent user, shows poise and elusive. Could envisage him coming into our team and playing well. Our backline is crying out for a playmaker, a small crafty type.

Know this, if we bring in 1 player at least such as Dow/Fisher/Boyd... they will absolutely kill themselves in order to ensure a chance to play in GF. It may be beneficial bringing in a surprise call up to cover a sore player as you'd think they'd be chomping at the bit and giving hope to anyone in the top 26 that they are all a chance to play in that last Saturday in September.

The more I think about it, the more these teams are evenly matched. We don't have good match ups for their small/medium forwards, and any of them could get off the chain. They don't have good match ups for our tall forwards (especially with Payne out - word on the street here in Brisbane is that he's definitely not going to play).

The midfield battle will be intense. Neale, Dunkley, Zorko, McLuggage, Berry, Roberston, Fletcher. Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett, Acres, Docherty, Cottrell. I know it's cliche, but this will be a big factor in deciding the game.

Some things that will be key if we are to win:
  • Midfielders flooding back. Our elite runners will have to get back quickly to clog up the space. The Lions want it in quick and in space. One on one, their forwards are too good for any backline. If we slow the space/clog the space/outnumber, we'll take away a major weapon.
  • Our small forwards being switched on defensively. The Lions love to intercept and launch through McKenna, Coleman and Wilmot. Our smalls have to be ready to match up instantly if there's a turnover in our front half.
  • Take away uncontested marks. Do not allow space. Make them kick long down the line. It's what we did so well when we beat Collingwood late in the year. We'll need a similar amount of attention and discipline to beat the Lions.

It's no surprise that these points are all defensive. Once we take away their scoring, they can be vulnerable defensively. This is how Gold Coast beat them in Rd 20, but it took being switched on for every minute of the game. Teams like Adelaide, St Kilda and Geelong came close, but the Lions held them off.

But this is where the system we built is made for finals - contest, pressure, roles, discipline. Bring it on.
