I’m a bit worried carrying Acres and Doch in their banged up state. So we need insurance.

Roll the dice and bring in Hollands for Owies. Hollands 21 touches when we met them earlier in the year. Owies, yeah love his pressure and clutch goals but his output has dropped off recently.

Cottrell can roll through the forward line to “replace” Owies. Big fan of this guy as a forward option. His forward pressure at same level as Owies too. He didn’t play v them first time around.

Surely we have enough weapons to kick goals without Owies - Coleman boys, Martin (didn’t play against them earlier in the year), Motlop, Fog, Cotts - cameos from TDK and mids like Walsh, Cerra and Cripps.

I really feel we’re going to need the run of Hollands at the pointy end of this one.

We’re underdogs for good reason, a bit of dare is required at selection to change the dynamics of this game.

IF the club isnt worried, why should you be?

I don’t want it to end, I love this being in the finals so dam exciting
It's where we belong as a club, I'm loving every single day of it . We have been waiting too long to feel this excitement again and this time it's real, so much different to anything we've done in such a long time. The best September in almost quarter of a century.

how fantastic has it been, tuning in on the radio and hearing Carlton every day?

i agreed to do a trivia night for people last friday back in late may as we were going terrible at the time and i thought to myself - deal weith the devil - if this creates a scheduling nightmare so be it - it will have been worth it.

cancelling was karmically not an option

watched the game while hosting the trivia night, made it home during the third quarter.

If we get over Brisbane, how much will be left of us for the big dance? Probably no shame suggesting we played our GF in the PF of 99.
If we are fit we win the premiership. Can't carry injured players in finals I thought we were cooked after the Swans. We will not play a harder final than Melbourne. Who knows but there are tired & sore signs that need to be overcome by a once in history spirit or a Curnow/Mckay/Martin taking a game by the scruff of the neck

If we get over Brisbane I honestly think it's our year. A different feel to 1999.
I thought we were 60/40 chance to beat Swans, ended up closer than expected.
A 50/50 against Demons, pretty well how it ended.
Lions we are about 45/55 at the Gabba.
Grand final 50/50 again verses anyone.

Good luck to the boys who get selected.

There will be at least one who is hard done by and misses out.

Get the job done lads.
I reckon anyone who misses out is unlucky. Everyone is playing a role at the moment. It's a tough gig, but in the end there's not enough spots for all those that deserve it.

If nothing else, Hollands is a pair of fresh legs after two grinding finals.

I'd be more worried about Acres if he wasn't banged up - dude is clearly a masochist

I hope we learn from 99 and from the Dees game last week and pick the right team for the right game plan.

In 99 we got thrashed in the 1st final, then won the next 2 finals going long & direct, along with a bit of Kouta magic. I watched training before the Grand Final and watched their drills. I turned to my mate and said surely they're not going to try the same thing 3 weeks in a row. Sure enough they did, and all 6 Roos defenders were in their best 8. Had zero chance of winning. If for example they changed their game plan again, started Kouta in the centre & SOS at full forward it may have given us a 10% chance of winning if we won the clearances because we weren't going to stop their forwards. When you are underdog, you have the licence to be creative. Parkin was a good coach up to the 80's.

Last game media got stuck into Dees. But they were smart. They went in with 2 extra runners into their 22. They had 2 key defenders, 1 Ruck & 1 key forward. And it paid dividends. They just missed a lot of goals which kept us in the game. Schache was just insurance if one of May, Lever, Gawn or McDonald went down. He can play a bit of all those positions whilst Grundy can only play ruck. Point is they already had an extra 2 runners for most of the game.

We need to have enough run against Lions to cover for pressure acts & overlap run or make sure we have the brutes in at the stoppages to win clearances and go long to our talls.

There are 3 selection permutations the selection committee could make. Interesting to see what they make (expecting the most likely) Pies are in a similar scenario. Whilst we know who Lions & Giants will select.

It's a good point - our relatively healthy injury list could be a 'weapon' for us in being able to potentially swap in some fresh players.

I remember saying to people earlier in the year that the one thing I'd rather avoid was a final at the Gabba. Might as well tackle your fears head on. Who knows if we get another chance at a prelim with a mostly healthy list, the opportunity doesn't come around very often. Hope we leave it all out there.

I think that Vossy has a few tricks up his sleeve - that last magnificent goal - was no 'fluke' - have a look at the players that had made full-field runs to be there- Docherty ( in his own words ) supported by the video had multiple players to pick to kick to...McGovern/Kemp/Acres/Charlie were all tallish targets open for a pass. This was obviously a planned set play - two extra tall defenders finding their way deep into forward fifty having left their opposition way behind.

The reason why Melbourne players found a way to make errors late in the game against Carlton last week was the cumulative effects of pressure on the ball carrier over 4 quarters. Carlton players were going in hard and spoiling in the last 5 minutes despite it looking like it was all over. There were examples of repeat efforts and one percenters which made big impacts all over teh ground in that last 5-10 minutes.

That kind of pressure is going to have to be repeated up in Gabba because Brisbane have a potent forward line. I dont think that Brisbane have the midfield strength of Melbourne - what they do have is much better field kicking skill and leg speed. The longer the game goes on - the more both their midfield strengths diminish. So staying in the game is priority one and that will be massive pressure on the ball and winning the ground ball and contests - exactly what Voss has been training the side (and picking the side) to do. Carlton will do better controlling the territory and forcing Brisbane into an arm wrestle.

Brisbane will want to play an open game - this has to be denied them.

Carlton lacks the 'complete' forward line of Brisbane - but that can be made up for with teh type of strong team game and mongrel never say die effort required to win these preliminary finals matches.

If the team plays anywhere near its best - we are right in this. They are a confidence team - don't give them any oxygen.
