This is it 100%. Even the slowest of teams can look fast with precise quick ball movement. That's all it takes. We're not lacking leg speed, we're lacking speed of ball movement. Too stagnant.
It's both. We very clearly do lack leg speed, but we also have poor skill meaning we can't move the ball quick to cover for it.

Saad too can hold his head high. Not sure Kemp has done enough to be in the head held high group. Weitering has improved the last few weeks.

But seriously when Harry kicked that goal in the second term it felt like we had all the momentum and were about to go crunch. But the Bombers simply slipped into another gear and overan us.

Just on Voss, not his fault we were 2.9 that's just shight from the players.
Voss has to take a fair share of the blame.

Why was there no one deep?

So many times our players bombed at goal from long range because there was no one there!

Our 'slow' blokes like Cripps and Hewett (and maybe Kennedy too?) are simply not fit.

Walsh too is moving sluggishly.

If it is revealed that Cripps is carrying an injury after repeated reassurances that he's fine, I'll be ropeable.

He is so far off his best form, it's laughable.

I'd hazard a guess that all 4, if fit, have more leg speed than a Tom Libba or Tom Mitchell or Ollie Wines (as a few examples)

2 of those 4 clearly ain't fit. Possibly Kennedy too.

And Owies is not slow.
The issue with that comparison is they aren't all playing in 1 midfield. They are 1 player in a midfield group that has a balance of speed around them.

Mitchell has elite runners all around him, Wines has elite speed and quickness in Rozee and Butters while Libba plays in a team that has elite quick hands that also runs forward. Also, Libba is consistently one of the highest distance run players this season for Dogs so while not fast is an elite runner.

Whereas our balance is 4 slow inside mids.

Just listened to Vossy’s presser frim last night.

Basically we’re going to get after something, everyone knows there’s ‘one’ aspect of our game we need to work on but we’re going to get after it. Not going to change the way we review the match because consistency is the key and we will still look to Crippa for his onfield leadership.

So as you were. Lucky the club thinks not making finals this year won’t be a failure. Infact from that lens you could probably say we’re overachieving because we’re not even at the bye and we’re already not making finals. KPI achieved way ahead of time! Get after it.

Our effort - pathetic. Average of 6 tackles per quarter after QT (Dow had 3 in the last so that means 21 other players laid 3 tackles between them in a quarter of football

We are managing some.astonishing stats:

Players who laid a tackle after half time:
Dow = 3
Kennedy = 3
Cerra, Cripps, De Koning, McKay, Silvagni, Cottrell = 1
15 players had zero tackles in the second half.

Goals from midfielders = 0
Goals from midfielders (Cripps, Walsh, Kennedy, Hewitt, Cerra, Docherty, Curnow, Hollands, Acres) for the season = 17 combined.

Go back and watch the first quarter behinds we kicked - the ones where we blazed away from 70 etc. They were clear breakdowns, we had possession. Should have been a procession of midfielders pushing fprward to get a cheapie. And yet... crickets

We have a team of players who are the opposite of downhill skiiers. No one wanta to run downhill. We have a team of midfielders who are all that one bloke who just wants to sit in the chalet drinking cocoa and be home base for everyone else when they check in across the day.

There's nothing to "reveal" about Cripps health as he's been obviously playing with an ankle brace since rolling it a few weeks back. If they are saying it then it's a blatant lie as it's visible for everyone to see. Hewett was always slow and was seen as slow in Sydney and Kennedy, also, has always been seen a slow inside mid. Fitness isn't what's made them slow, they just are slow and have always been seen as that.

Movement wise Walsh seems fine to me, it's more he seems slow in decision making this season. He's getting chased down once or twice a week while looking like a deer in headlights which has never happened to him before. He's clearly confused about what to do with ball in hand at the moment, as are lots of our guys.

Our one biggest issue is speed. Particularly in the midfield. Also the smalls up forward.

They blew us to bits in the third term because we simply couldn't lay a hand on them. You can't tackle if you can't catch them. I've read the whole thread and liked a total of 3 posts because they address this obvious issue. Genuine question - how many really poor, half-hearted, broken tackles did people see? There would have been some, but it didn't stand out as a glaring issue to me.

Our backline is ok for speed, but we have the useless impediment making us impotent against any form of organised entry. Saad, Cincotta, Boyd, Kemp and Gov all have enough speed to surround Weiters. We also have Williams to come back. It's the reason Doc has been pushed up the ground - to add a semblance of pace to a more needed area.

Martin showed how important he can be when he was up and running. Unfortunately his fitness didn't allow him to do it for long enough, and is informative when considering Cunners. We desperately need him, but not just for one quarter of effectiveness. Durdin at least has speed relative to the other 2. They just can't run anyone down.

Our midfield is diabolically slow. Cerra and Walsh (when fully right) are about it. The game-style has gone past having a mix of Cripps, Kennedy, Ed and Hewett. Doesn't help when the opposition have 2 competent ruckmen and we have half a one. One of those mids can be in there at any given time. You'd like to think it would be the reigning Brownlow medalist, but god I hope he is carrying something to explain what is going on.

We have a team that would have been really competitive at the start of our rebuild. I don't see what game plan can accommodate the slowest midfield in the comp. Everything we do is under heat, which means average entries, difficult shots and the resultant turd of a scoreboard.

..And we’ve been banging on about this for a couple of years - tells you a bit about how ****ed the club is.

Why was young on Peter wright instead of Weitering that’s coaching.

You would think Weitering would take the most dangerous opposition KPF but most weeks he gets the 2nd or 3rd best.
Young looked completely lost, either 5m in front or 5m behind big 2M Peter all game.
I think the truth lies in the middle, Voss is a shite coach for not making an obvious swap and Weitering is not that good.

15 players on zero tackles for a half of football… you wouldn’t think that is remotely possible. Disgraceful.

100% probably one of the worst defensive efforts ive ever seen and ive seen alot at this club literally every time it went to there forward line he was 20m off Wright, Wright would of been laughing to himself thinking is young even going to come near me
Fact is if Grimes played on Wright last night he wouldn't of kicked a goal
So there is 5 gosls and then the 7 or 8 we should have kicked and its a easy win to us
And yet Voss allowed it to continue. Didnt make a change. Young was 5 metres behind Wright all night. Terrible coaching allowing that to go on all night without trying something different.

This.
I would say the dogs have a slower midfield group but probably a higher level of player then ours and still quicker then ours. Funnily they also have horrible trouble getting easy looks on goal, hitting up forwards.

There’s a reason Mitchell went for peanuts and Hawthorn are paying for him to play at Collingwood and he is a Brownlow medalist just like Cripps. Most sides have that player, they don’t add more

Pace. We are as slow as *.

It is system

We are badly set up at stoppages and players get sucked to the ball rather than defending the outside = fewer tackles.

when they have clean possession we defend very deep and often don't guard the mark. Teams can move the ball slowly and easily with almost zero pressure. We are then pretty good at winning it back in defensive 50 throigh weight of numbers. But this system means no forward 50 tackles (only 4 against Essendon) and almost no tackles when they move the ball.

When we have the ball, we tend to hold our defensive structure and our mids don't press to the next contest. We either win the contest or lose it. Very rarely do we chase down the ball and lock it in with a tackle.

And yet we ****ed off a massive KPD with elite athleticism who is currently in the frame for All Australia...

The club is a ****ing disgrace. Whoever made that decision deserves to be fired.
