Contrasting styles isn't it? Our bigger mids would prefer to take on the body contact and absorb the tackle and then attempt a handball while usually off balance generally leading to a loopy ot misdirected handball.

The Crows were consistent in their ability to side step and dodge a would be Carlton tackler, keeping their balance and firing off a quick handball or kick.

I wonder if we have taken the 'be hard in the contest' mantra too far and have been coached to take the contact and have not placed any training/coaching into agility/dodging/side steps.

Too many points in Strength and not enough in Dexterity? Plus a few blokes who forgot that Constitution is important?

Motlop is still impressing, his rove and goal in the third was super.

With all the bluster about trading this play and that, my 2c worth, is there any merit in trading Harry ? We already have a gun big forward in Charlie, if we could snazzle a trade for Harry to a smaller type forward like Bailey Frisch and save a few 100k would it make us a different team.
Yeah it would make us a different team. All of sudden Charlie will be double and triple teamed.

Its not Harry and Charlie that are the issue its the delivery of the footy to them

I hate Gather Round.

* Gather Round.

One of my relos texted me this last night (it was from a F/book page)

Carlton forgot to look up 'gather' in the dictionary before the game...

It means to "turn up/ come together/accumulate"

Frustrating at times as he may be, Harry is vital to structure. He's also getting up the ground and taking important marks. Also helping to leave Charlie isolated. With him, it's a mental game. Other than that, he and Charlie are our key 1:2 punching combo.

Motlop will be a star and just exudes natural forward flair. I like Durdin too, and Owies can find the goals, but the forward stocks go noticeably absent after those five.

I don't disagree with anything you've said, other than stating that J-SOS should NEVER be relied upon to kick more than a 1 per game. 20 per year is a very good year for a guy that plays the role he plays. And that for us, with McKay and Charlie, would be a good year.

Problem with J-SOS is that many of his main attributes are also found in a bunch of players that have exponentially greater skill than him. Sadly for him, I think his days are numbered if they're only going to use him in the roles he's played in recent times.

I tend to agree he'd be better in the backline...then again, who would he replace? You couldn't rely on him for quick transitions at all. Slow movement out of the backline won't cut it in this moment in time. And I doubt he's going to move past any of our other key backs.

A huge shift in mental fortitude, application and aggression are needed to knock off the Saints, they're flying, deserve some respect.
Not sure how Vossy is going to achieve change in just a few days, but he's gotta try something,
our performance against Adelaide was dull, dismal and unacceptable.
I'm hopping Pitto recovers quickly crucial component , if not be prepared for a slide down the ladder.

% definitely matters.

We dropped from 114% to 96.3% last night.

How can anyone forget what happened rnd 23 last year.

% cost a a place to remain in the 8 & play finals for the 1st time since 2013.

Spot on.

Some of the posters on this forum have a "everybody other than Richmond has half a game lead or half a game deficit on us so percentage doesn't matter this year."

I don't like that take as it takes just one other draw to have multiple teams fighting you for percentage and Richmond themselves have similar aspirations and will figure closely with hls unless they fall apart completely (as nice as it'd be it's unlikely).

He's 1.91.

So is Gov and Plowman.

Cowan is 1.88 and Newman 1.87.

But I still think he has a lead up role up forward if he's played there semi permanently. And with that, I'm not surprised his stats are down if we're playing him in ruck!

If we're comparing him to Gov and Plowman, we've got issues. Gov is probably a better kick, but he's not super. But he's probably better suited down back than as a lead up forward. For mine, he often just gets in the way and crowds things for C & H. He's good at applying pressure in the forward line, but these days you need a fair bit more than just that.

If I’m an AFL listed player in the VFL tonight, I’m absolutely chomping at the bit to put in a BOG performance after so many of our senior players were abysmal last night.
Voss 2.0 is about relationship building and is too scarred to get the main members of the team off-side in case the tail starts wagging the dog again. He won't make fundamental changes and stick by the same over and over again. Only expect Honey to be at risk, McGov in, and prob Ed/Kennedy as a sub.

Its funny how people here discuss the Ross Lyon recruitment. Claiming that he wouldnt interview, and the process overrides headhunting

Sayers offered him the job. Board decided via Patty Kinnersley he needed to break his non disclosure agreement on what happened at Freo and thus interview for it.

The issue didnt seem to bother STK.

Whats even funnier, is that no one had an issue Sayers headhunting Clarkson...

Was Clarkson going to be interviewed!? Hmm no

It’s not funny it’s delusion. People seem to think that this is a great club. This club has not been a great club for half a lifetime. This club is a basket case drowning in corporate nonsense with very little focus on the one thing that matters - winning premierships. And just lucky to have a top tier list falling over the line often enough to paper over the cracks.

Our midfielders so far in 2023.

Cripps 6.5/10
Hewett 4/10
Kennedy - see Hewett - 4/10.
Cerra - 6.5/10
Ed C - 5.5/10
Fish 2.5/10

Rucks:

Pitto 4.5/10
TDK 4/10

But Fish got coaches votes for a half of football. Should keep him in the side till the bye at least

Fish shouldve been sub and Carroll or Dow shouldve played

JSOS needs to go, below average third tall at best and don't give me this ruck option crap! Been playing 2 rucks so he has no inflated value at all. Only need one ruck if McKay does all F50 ruck duties and if we need another option Cripps can ruck in spurts as he is then an extra mid plus he is taller and stronger than JSOS

I dont like potting JSOS because he gives his all, and has a role however I have never liked playing 2 rucks + JSOS, perhaps the answer is that Lemmey replaces JSOS and we partner him with TDK. Lemmey should give us more in the ruck than JSOS does, I have never seen Lemmey play but he gets goals most weeks so if Hammil thinks he can work H, Charlie and Lemmey into the 1 50m zone it then gives us another option.

To add to this, we are not brutal enough with our list management. Look how brutal Collingwood were, getting rid of Grundy ,trelor and to a lesser extent Jayden Stephenson and Tom phillips. Look where they are now. Where we keep persisting with Lobs and Plowman and how long are we going to persist with Marchbank? McGovern, Williams, Martin, Cunningham, Marchbank have shown over 7 years of perpetual injuries. Why do we keep persisting with these types?

Im sure they will say there great club people until the culture changes until we get rid of this boys club mentality we aint going anywhere

Yes, it's a question I ask myself. I don't even see them around when the ball falls to the ground...probbaly already running back to protect space for where the imaginary opposition players will go to...is it any wonder, opp sides waltz the ball out of our F50?

This. We use our small forwards up on the wing and have no one at the feet of Charlie and Harry.
At least twice in the dying stages of the match, it's been our small forwards kicking it on Charlie or Harry's heads, instead of being lurking near the pack.
So when it gets turned over the opposition get to walk it out and our front half pressure is outside the 50 on the wing.

Actually, a lot of people have been concerned with Voss since mid last year when his lack of creativity and conservative approach started to reveal itself. Think there was more tolerance bc he’d only had the one preseason.
Voss was the third selection behind clarkson and lyon. The other thing voss sent brissy rock botyom with pretty similiar game style kick to brown bomb it in
