Perhaps a controversial opinion, and I'll preface this by saying I think Cerra has been our best player this year (perhaps he and Charlie)...but I did not like that he said it wouldn't be a failure not to make finals.

This is our second year under Voss. He's had more time to get the players to understand his methodology and develop a gameplan that wins games. We should be improving not going backwards. It's not that we've lost any of our talent from last year, in fact we're in the perfect age demographic to be challenging.

Making finals should be the passmark this year.

I don't disagree with you. Finals should be the minimum aim this year.

However, the tone and the message of the interview were clear to me.

They want to play better football, understand that they're capable of it, and are working to that end.

If they do that then finals will take care of themselves.

I think he was just trying to avoid making big prognostications as the overriding tone of the rest of it was one of calm and common sense.

You can believe that internally they'll be devastated if they fall short this year. Individually they will all be expecting to make finals. Saying so publicly just builds pressure onto an already anxious/volatile situation.

It's the big elephant in the room until they do (or don't).

Club marketing department planting the seed of acceptance in supporters and medias minds. Post round 8 already conceding the acceptability of not making the 8 when still in the 8..... just what the weak minded members of our squad were hoping to hear.

Edit: It's all good though.... we broke our membership record.

Not saying it's going to happen but teams have the ability to flick the switch quickly and get stuff right after playing some mediocre footy at times.

Richmond in 2019 were 7-6 with a percentage of 92% and sitting 9th at the bye. They were also 9-6 having conceded 15 of the first 16 goals to st.kilda in 2017 (both premiership years).

Geelong we're 5-4 after 9 rounds last year. Most teams aren't clicking early in the season.

I think the best thing we can do is to acknowledge that our game plan isn't working and tinker with it so we aren't getting strangled down the line like we did on Friday night.

Things can turn around pretty quickly but we need to address some hard truths and get the game back on our terms.

Says it all, really.

Had you told me it was Voss who said what Cez said today I'd believe you. His interview today was the closest thing I've heard from our players in "coach speak" in a long time.

Cez is a leader.

Cook, Cerra and the club conditioning us for what's to come. They know it, Cook watches the same games we do.

The media folks train the players to toe the party line after a loss. That’s why Cerra was chosen - he’s a smart and considered kid.
Cook laid the ground work for this on Friday night - no way Cerra was going to undermine the CEO.

In my younger days, I was in the 'You should not be smiling after a loss' camp but I can now see that is probably bad sportsmanship. Crippa and Neale could be more than just acquaintances so when you shake hands after the final siren you have to be yourself and if he says something funny you respond accordingly. It is once you get in the rooms (and on the training track the next week) that your demeanour has to match the result

We just had to put up a performance like this while I was away on my golf trip at Barnbougle with 12 blokes, 4 or 5 who happened to be Saints supporters….have I copped s**t all weekend 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

That's alright mate. They've been copping shit for 150 years.

.if they're lucky their grandkids might live to see one.

Don’t worry about that Rabble.

1 flag & 27 🥄 in 150yrs.

If you rewatch the game there are actually reasonable chunks of it we look the better side. We just ******* HaVE TO clean up the rubbish errors. Or move out the players who make them.

My typing was a typo. Not an attempt to avoid swear filter. ‘J’ is next to ‘k’. Oops.

half those goals were junk
How many of those tackles stopped players dead in their tracks or better still, caused a HTB?
They were f**** poor and have been all year IMHO
Sorry that they are not leading the Coleman. Fun fact..............Corey Durdin, Matthew Owies and Jesse Motlop have each kicked more goals than All-Australian Tyson Stengle this season. Stengle has 5 goals in 5 games

You put Durdin and Motlop into one of the better functioning sides in the competition who have a good combination of efficient/talented medium forwards to compliment them along with better ball movement, and I’d give my left nut how much more dangerous and efficient they would both be as young players all round..

Geelong doesn’t have a scoring problem though does it? If we can’t get goals via Charlie and McKay it totally dries up.
