Given how many AFL listed players GCS had Sandi held up pretty well really. They basically ran out legs in the last 45 minutes, but battled on well.
  • Highmore stats are high because he does all the kicking out from behinds, but he still had a very solid game down back. Probably our best player.
  • Campbell was his usual servicable self rucking against plenty, took some good marks but Burgess got on top in the last.
  • Sharman was thrown all over the ground and gets the ball enough, but needs to add some attack and link up run to his game.
  • Peris was servicable, chased and tackled well. His skills let him down a couple of times. He has a habbit of wanting to give look away hand balls, when he just needs to concentrate on hitting a target firstly.
  • Connolly played the entire game onball for 1 solitary tackle. At one stage in the 2nd quarter he was just a witches hat, throwing a hand out to apply pressure. He never moved an inch while a GCS player danced around him and ran off - very ordinary look. He stood 5 metres off the play in centre bounces which works if your mates are getting first hands on the ball but they werent. He has neat kicking skills if his team mates give him the ball, but he needs to learn how to fight for his own ball. There should be one message for Leo lift your intensity/physicality or you will struggle to be on the list next year.
  • Adams had a good game given who he was matched up against Chol, Day and McLaughlin. Again a couple of ordinary lazy kicks, but his marking is very good.
  • Heath took a couple of nice marks but was quiet. For some reason when Sandi were kicking with the wind in the 3rd Batchelor had him on the bench for the majority of the quarter.
  • Van Es just a game. Needs to get some urgency in his footy he cruises about far too much, but he is just a kid getting up to the speed of the game. One thing he has is he is never moved off the ball, Chol & Day tried but Van Es was able to hold his ground. He must be enormously strong through the core for a young man.
