We don't fund it properly. The difference between BH Hawks and Casey Demons and Sandy is the money that they pump in. If you pay $500 a game to your non aligned players and you have 20 of them over 20 games it's $200k. We could spend an extra $200k and make it a destination instead of the draft tempter and get a much better result. The wages for a 2 year AFL contract probably come in at $150k.

I think it's just been left to rot as other priorities in the footy department took all our money and attention.

As a development tool it is hugely important. Hopefully Brendan Goddard starts throwing bowls of food around until they give him some coin.
And some shortbread biscuits!

Don’t remember this guy playing much so no real loss.

Looking forward to seeing who these good signings are.
Curious how much of this is Sandringham ‘clearing the decks’ vs all these players leaving to go to better clubs/more money/more opportunities?

Either the club is a trainwreck with rats fleeing a sinking ship. Or we’re ruthless and building a stronger club. Very different narratives

Thre ws some speculation here that some VFL players were annoyed that the Coates League kids got games ahead of them later in the season

well maybe they should be better players....whining about being dropped for a kid, who probably performed better in that game than the senior did all year...

Just saying what I was told.

Don’t disagree with you but to clarify we are talking both players who lost spot and those that did not .

Their believe was they were still a chance to make finals and senior players were dropped for Coates league kids .

Personal view is that they were kidding themselves , but was told there would be a mass exodus and there is .

Reckon it is a good thing.

I reckon shortbreads would be more effective. Just don't tell Bolts!

who ensured the exodus, Sandringham, or the players?

The new Sandy GM probably had a bit to do with it. Has a good reputation in recruitment and development with Sandy Dragons. Apparently his predecssor (the father of the latest ‘it’ players the Ashcrofts) just let the club tick over without really achieving any effective change

Two Sandringham Dragons graduates are among the first signings for Sandringham Zebras.

Sandy have secured versatile tall Lachie Voss and hard-running midfielder Ned Maginness.

Playing as a 19-year-old, Voss had a VFL game with the Zebras this year and figured in the Dragons’ grand final win over the Greater Western Victoria Rebels. He was also part of their 2022 premiership.

Maginness, the son of Hawthorn premiership defender Scott, was also a 19-year-old Dragon this year, splitting his time in the Coates Talent League and with Old Scotch Under 19s. He also appeared in the Young Guns series.

The Zebras are also expected to snare Dandenong Stingrays graduate Elwood Peckett, who was overlooked by St Kilda as a father-son selection.

Matt Allison has also joined Coburg

No one officially singed for Sandy on the list of 70 the HS just put out.

But it says at the bottom of the article Jett Peckett is expected to sign to play with Elwood.
Jett or Elwood Peckett?
