He makes it interesting to listen, doesn't feel like he's reading off a script. Love it.
Just watched this - absolutely convinced this bloke is an elite head coach who has been smart enough to put some ex Elle t assistants in place to support him. He has a clear plan as to where he wants this team to go & how to get there. It will take some time as the young mid field guns develop and will also depend on others filling some holes in the list (e.g. Ruck depth, Key forwards) which he has clearly identified.

Alternatively he is Frank Abagnale & sucked me in completely - which also shows how smart he is haha!

They missed the Whispers in the Sky game where the umpires robbed us of a win and one of them was heard to brag about it on the plane home.

I was at that game and the umpiring in that game was some of the worst I've seen with Freo being gifted goals with soft or non-existent free kicks.

I don't think it's unfair. They are all true points and it is a huge gamble. It's either a huge pay off or consigning us to years of pain. No-one really knows what we'll get. The club sounds as though they wanted Lyon to confirm that the list was good and the coach was shit but has come back with the list as the issue. That's already a huge slap in the face of the administration.

One thing we haven't been is systematic in our approach to building a list and rather than settle down and work towards something we are still rolling dice. Hopefully this time our numbers fall.

Key quotes:

Lyon could be inheriting a squad that’s actually bursting with star power and potential, and which is crying out for a big dose of accountability and structure, the likes of which happen to be the two biggest weapons in his tool bag.

At St Kilda, he morphed a decent defence into one of the best in history, and which in 2009 conceded 367 points less than the next best defence in the competition.

At Fremantle, he took over a defence that was ranked eighth, and turned it into a top-two unit over four consecutive seasons. It was a similar story in Sydney, where Lyon’s fingerprints are all over one of the most tenacious tackling teams of all time.

In this realm, there’s no doubt Lyon knows what he’s doing. In fact, in this regard, he might be one of the best minds in the game.
Like him or hate him, Lyon at least knows precisely who he is, and how he wants his teams to play. For Carlton, these are the exact qualities the Blues are crying out for in a partner, and the kind of qualities that can help them play finals quickly and regularly.

Oh wait, this was from a different article our aspiring writer published.

Easiest gig in the world. If he keeps up this solid body of work I could see him working his way up to news.com where he can copy and paste reddit posts into articles for clicks

He has written s**t articles before, and sadly the only reason I know that is because I remember seeing that beta face of his. All media is trash, but especially if you go looking for it on fOotYoLoGy

Credit to him.

To actually put a name and face (especially one as unfortunate as his) to that absolute hatchet job takes some big balls.

Then again, the article is on Footyology, so he probably didn’t expect anyone would actually read it.

Actually sums up my concerns about re-hiring Ross.

In his previous stints he's been a finisher, not a builder. Defensive minded to the detriment of scoring capacity.

And in a building stage most coaches want their players to 'free wheel" because they are not trying stifle the development of the players. (McCrae & Mitchell)

The recent article highlights it perfectly

"In his 13 combined seasons with both St Kilda and Fremantle, Lyon produced a single top four attack. Just one. In fact, over the course of his coaching tenure, the average offensive rank by a Ross Lyon coached team was 12th.

In those years, his teams went 5-46 when scoring less than 60, which is a stat we’re raising here because the Saints ranked 14th for points scored in 2022 and are seriously limited when it comes to scoring sources forward of centre."

The previous article about Carlton highlights why they would have been a better fit at the time.

"Yet just like St Kilda and Fremantle, Lyon could be inheriting a squad that’s actually bursting with star power and potential, and which is crying out for a big dose of accountability and structure, the likes of which happen to be the two biggest weapons in his tool bag.

"... what Carlton is desperately crying out for is structure and someone who can devise a plan which can help the Blues stop leaking points like a sieve."

I’d much rather a finisher than a builder.

Building is the role of the list managers and Development coaches.

No point being like Gold Coast, building forever and not being able to get anywhere.

*in' hell I thought oh that's fair enough he probably posted that months ago. Nup. He posted it yesterday, FMD.

That probably makes more sense though, injury has made everyone think we are gone already. Melbourne have lost May and perhaps he thinks that will screw them? Weird choices regardless.

We will be decimated until Round 5 or 6 though. Surely we will win more than North and WCE even with a 6 week head start. Lets not give him any credit. He looks unhinged.
