Last bit is wrong.

He had Freo. 2 club state. The media and pressure is on you and every choice you make.

Rest agreed.

Freo are the special needs kid over there. No-one expects anything of them and while the scrutiny by media is bigger than the Saints he was allowed to take over the club without impediment.

They had 55k members last season.

That’s a fair achievement in 30 years and highlights that they aren’t quite Timmy from South Park.

yeh because WCE have been sold out for much of their existence. so much so WCE supporterers were buying freo memberships and rocking up in their wce gear and actively cheering against freo every weekend.

That ain’t no way to treat a rising star Jye 🙄

As I've said before, there are people inside the club that are more interested in fighting each other over success on field. Lyon might not have been able to take control like he has at a small club.

They would have had petty fights over his staffing and the amounts of power he was allowed. People don't give up turf that they've won through years of machiavellian scheming.

Lyon would have been perfect for the list but he would have been under intense scrutiny when he lost or appointed staff, grabbed at power etc.

It would have been the best list he'd ever had control of but it would have been his first experience working at a big club with the focus on every move. He might not have been as seamlessly integrated as he is at the Saints.
I really don't get where this "Carlton has such a great list" misconception comes from. They've got a handful of elite players, a team full of GOPs and hacks. Like us last year, they looked great when it was working but the depth is really questionable. I don't see their list as being anywhere near as good as we were in 2009, but if you can be bothered trying to big up the Blues list, I'm all ears.

I think that’s exactly the point. They’ve got a handful of A graders that seduce everyone but not enough depth around them. On top of that I’m not sure their A-graders are consistent enough. Curnow and McKay look great one minute then go missing the next. They are a middle six team, but people buy into the hype.

I’m not sure how important depth is when you’ve got the star power of two Coleman medalists, a brownlow medal winner in the midfield (along with Walsh who will probably win one one day), two gun key defenders and two AA half backs. And that’s without going into their midfield depth. That’s more than what Richmond had when they went on their run. Because Voss doesn’t know what he’s doing there’s a narrative starting that the list is questionable but I still think they’re loaded and one day a proper coach will come in and unlock it.

They could do with a coach who can get the best out of his players. Too bad they couldn’t find one of those when they appointed Voss.

McKay I’d agree…Curnow is a superstar and game changer!

If the boss was their coach they’d be in the top 3-4 at the moment!

I reckon they have a great list, they just can't work out how to use them. The biggest sign that you are getting less out of your list is when players leave and look great at other clubs. Stocker and Setterfield both look like high end talent outside of Carlton. Binns and Dow rated in the top 5 VFL players this year. They have a great list but struggle to maximise it.

Rarely does walsh hurt with his possies

And Saad runs really really fast... & usually straight into trouble (or turns it over)

It's the old big club, big name story. Lots of media because they help drive traffic that vastly overates their better players.

Cripps & Curnow are guns. Walsh racks it up but doesn't really hurt as you said. Weitering is not as good as he's widely spoken to be. McKay is as bad as he is good. Cerra is a garden variety mid. Docherty is a very good player but not elite... he's their barometer IMO.

The rest? Meh.

A mix of GOPS and duds.

And very poorly coached too.

Long may it continue!
