You talk about risk v reward.

Tell me what is the reward for trading Coffield? A third round pick in a very shallow draft?

I think we can all understand that you need to give something to get something and I have no issue with trading Howard if the price is right.

I can’t see any reason why we should be trading players for the sake of it though.

We missed the opportunity to get a good price on Clark last year and now the interest seems to have gone anyway so he is another we’d be better off holding onto

I don't know that anyone is suggesting trading out any player for a handful of beans and six bottle tops, but that if we can get picks to bundle to move up the order then happy days, lets do it. The fact that they are willing to do it, means they are exploring options. If the options don't stack up then we dont do it.

The club has said often that they are off to the draft, so they are not looking to get rid of picks, but to improve our draft positions, as well as bringing in fresh talent. You can't get talent from other clubs, without giving up something, either picks or players. We are safeguarding or improving picks, so some fringe or injured players, are being shopped around.

There are lots of clubs with different problems, different needs, different salary cap pressures etc. Investigating all of these options and being open to trading out players to take up these opportunities is what this is about.

Any discussion on this should be seen in that light. God forbid we were not out shaking the trees to see what might fall out.

The “proposed deal” is that we provide a pick for Shiel. Taking him and his contract.

Essendon then trigger band 1 compo for Gresham
but why would Essendon do that given they have stacks of cap space, unless we give them a pretty handy pick … in which case, why would we do that?

From Twitter, they already hate it and that article implies a better pick for them than a junk one! Must be more to it. Maybe we are throwing in Allison :p
Well the first thing that comes to mind is that it would imply another player comes in for them (aside from Gresham)

The other thing is that clubs do odd things to save face.

They could go 0/2 in the free agent stakes and they were making noise not long ago about improving their list

Yep fair enough, let’s see. Thanks for sharing btw.

Will mini be our assistant next year? How would that fit into the soft cap
We are as good a chance as any.

It was insinuated to me that we could get him and one assistant- I believe Harves would move into a senior assistant role above the others. Mimi comes into his old role

Time for the list of crazy trades so far on this thread.

A wonderful new edition that would almost be clubhouse leader, toss up between no.1 and no.9

1.Phillipou for a 12-14 pick

2. Steele for an 18 y.o potential

3. Alison to North for a 3rd

4. Trade Ross because he once went @50% DE

5. Higgins traded back to Richmond

6. Jack Ginnivan commits to Saints. One post user who heard from a random whose son knows Ginnivan .

7. Howard to Sydney and we are paying his salary

8. Billings to Bulldogs for a 3rd and we pay the Salary

9. Chito for a 3rd rounder - clubhouse leader

A lot people saying 50 to 60 picks this year At most

More like 40 to 50 and then shut her down. I heard someone suggesting that there won't be much taken after the 40s. The front end looks okay and a few speculative ones in there but a pretty meh draft over all.

Last one was missing something - two fourths back to the other club too. And Max. Too good to be true otherwise.

Yeah would be a 'token' pick which is why it would need AFL approval.

Shiel going to be on close to a million next year...

Watch it be a pick swap of firsts to get Sanders.
