It’s a pretty good plan Shiel is a handy stop gap and we get our first rounder. That makes sense, so long as the other trades do I’ll be happy.

It had better not be Gresham and our first pick for Shiel and their first pick.

All of SOS Gubby and the St Kilda FC have all loved Dylan Shiel at different points.

He looked alright when he was a 22 year old at GWS. We are getting rid of Billings and Gresham and getting an older version.

I don't know that anyone is suggesting trading out any player for a handful of beans and six bottle tops, but that if we can get picks to bundle to move up the order then happy days, lets do it. The fact that they are willing to do it, means they are exploring options. If the options don't stack up then we dont do it.

The club has said often that they are off to the draft, so they are not looking to get rid of picks, but to improve our draft positions, as well as bringing in fresh talent. You can't get talent from other clubs, without giving up something, either picks or players. We are safeguarding or improving picks, so some fringe or injured players, are being shopped around.

There are lots of clubs with different problems, different needs, different salary cap pressures etc. Investigating all of these options and being open to trading out players to take up these opportunities is what this is about.

Any discussion on this should be seen in that light. God forbid we were not out shaking the trees to see what might fall out.
If Coffield somehow happens to land us a pick in the 40's is around 300 points in draft capital.

It's very little to put towards a pick upgrade of any meaning.

I'm all for shaking the trees, not sure that's the smartest way to go about it though

I don't really understand the proposed Shiel deal.

We take him off Essendon's hands, what do we get in return?

How is it related to Gresham?

Can anyone clarify?

They agree to pay JGs band 1 wage which is basically off set by us taking over their contract for Shiel to clear them money to do it. Shiel probably on more than Hill and been shit and injured most of his time there.

They've approved it for Geelong and GC last year. Why would they stop it?
It's not the same thing.

We are asking Essendon to pay a bigger wage for Gresham so we get band one, in return we will take Shiel off their hands.

There's more to it than a salary dump, it's manipulating a band one compensation.

We were apparently jn similar talks with Crouch and Dunstan but the AFL warned us against us.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be surprised if the AFL would be happy with it.

That's not shaking the tree, that's shitting in a tree and then standing under it looking up with your mouth open.

Pick 13 for Gresh.
The we trade them 13 for Shiel and 8.
There would not be enough vomit emojis in the universe.
But that makes absolutely no sense if we want to land Sanders. He will not be there at 8. I mean how stupid do you think Allen and SoS are?

We want Sanders but give a high FRDP for a 31 y.o Salary dump only get pick 8 and end up with another HBF'er, when the express aim is to get pick 4.
We may as well keep 12 and 13, not get Sheil. We dont have to trade for Essendon's player, FA is settled long before trade period.

Totally unrelated. This reads for them they get rid of Shiel (when they have plenty of cap), pay more for Gresham, and get a junk pick. Would you like that in reverse?!
Its just gaming the system just like the Lions and the Dons did with Daniher.

Lions offered overs for Daniher on a shorter contract to ensure Essendon got Band 1 compo.

Once he signed they reorganised his contract in a way that wouldn't have got Essendon Band 1 compo.

Wow how lucky was that for Essendon!!!!

I agree. But that's the only way it makes sense according to what was posted earlier.
It's academic anyway, no one is doing that deal.

Or you articulate it as we are helping them clear cap space to have more to pay. Lawyers get paid for a reason. That should be easy it get done. They screwed themselves trying to help GC and Geelong last year. Once you corrupt the system you open the door.

What is he on? How do you know he is on more than Hill? You don't want us to try for Sanders? Happy to be mediocre for ever?

I posted along these lines about Shiel in PM.

I agree. But I still think he improves us for a year or 2

This all needs to be judged in the light of the morning after the draft as far as I’m concerned.
Doubt Essendon will part with their first pick
Effectively downgrade their first for 12 or 13 and a second rounder

Thought this was going to be a mediocre trade/draft period for us, Dow and Henry ok cool but then reading about a possible way to get Sanders in.

I think the idea is that they pay enough to trigger mid first round compo maybe. Keep their pick and sell us Shiel for a nominal pick first to clear space on their books.

Sanders wont be there at 8, we will need to trade for 4
