Big season this one for the much maligned ex-Blue. Apparently going to play up forward, I hope he does well. Has got talent.

It's hard to see him excel as a small forward when he doesn't have a turn of speed and doesn't have a penetrating boot. He will get opportunities but it's hard to see him making a career out of the position. I guess he's like Matthew Owies but can he create the space for himself that Owies does?

SPS was wasted by us down back. Forward with bursts in the centre/wing was the go.
Dinky kicks were still with him last season, something he needs to rid from his game.

Anyone ever doubting Kennedy's position in the team just needs to look at the Cripps mic'd up video. Absolute hard nut and gives his all to block, tackle and win the tough balls.

Loved his first game vs the Tigers and so glad to see he's been able to get his body right after a couple or years at sea under Teague.

he's been worse for the eagles than he was for us, if anything. they had a shocking season so maybe with a fit team and better support he'll show a bit more. hope so but don't expect it.

He went down with injury and was forced to play extremely underdone because of the low numbers they had last year. It was just miserable at the eagles for him and the club. They could have also delisted him if they wanted to so obviously he’s done something right to be kept on the list.

This is all in hindsight. Nobody (literally nobody) was saying this at the time. The consensus was not quick / good / fit enough for AFL.

If he sticks at it an opportunity might open up for Paddy. I think he's got the ability.

That's not right at all - there were some that always saw value to him.
Admittedly it played out differently but I thought he should take JSOS spot inside f50 & rotate into the midfield to give Cripps a breather, minimising their defensive deficiency to a degree whilst still giving us a big body at the coalface.

Watching that vid the club released today of Crippa mic’d up, I sense a new level of confidence and presence in himself. Maybe it’s getting married or winning the Brownlow but this is the best condition I’ve ever seen Crippa and the confidence is on another level!! Skippppp

Agree.

Love the end when Durds marks it and Crippa says “hold hold”.

Let’s hope they learn from last years abysmal brain fades in the last couple games/moments.

Mate - the only people 'doubting' Kennedy's ability are a few posters on this forum - coaches/players and performance make him a no-brainer inclusion in the side- so far ahead of teh next best in the developing players it isn't worth discussing.

My guess is that what he did right was signing a 2 year contract with them.

Do or die for SPS this year at West coast. Would love to see him come good but the body of evidence is far from compelling.

Samo has too much talent to be a complete fail. He just has to get it right between the ears. He got into that weird habit of kicking max 15m kicks. If you're flying and full of confidence you don't even look at those kicks.

But he's clever with the ball and a good tackle. Hope he makes it.

I always backed Kennedy in. He was just such a likeable country bull. My feeling was that if we can utilise Cripps elsewhere, there was always a place for Kennedy.

I'll take your word for it. I won't claim to be as confident as you were but I do remember the exact same conversations about him then as you see about Dow now.

That said I'm far from convinced on Dow. Just making the point that others have been in his position and fought their way out. Will be an interesting sub-plot to this season. What I find irritating is when a guy like Dow continues to show strong form in the VFL and can't crack a game. You have to reward performance. It's a really fundamental part of any football club.

Talent needs to transfer to actionable AFL traits - I’d be interested in your thoughts on what SPS has that would make him a good level AFL player?
I just don’t see what he brings to the table in an AFL side.

The problem with Samo is that he is a cream on top player.

He was with us when we were battling and now at the eagles who are not exactly flying.

What I find irritating is when a guy like Dow continues to show strong form in the VFL and can't crack a game. You have to reward performance. It's a really fundamental part of any football club.

There needs to be a vacancy for Dow to play or he needs to be in better form than someone else. In the seniors, this equates to having a well rounded game. I'm perplexed by Dow because his body shape doesn't change. His defensive running doesn't change. He doesn't seem to follow the lead of someone like Cripps who works on his deficiencies in his offseason. Maybe one day we will find out what he has or hasn't tried, probably in some feel good story for his new team.

But do you reward seconds performance at the expense of players performing in the ones?

All the best to Dow but I wouldn't say he has lacked opportunity. Kemp is the one I will be annoyed about if left to languish in the seconds.
