Great question A …….. one big advantage of the present versus next years crop/pick is that you can see what you will get now.

At 6’6, beautiful leap, can take a mark at the highest point and top 10 in agility test with elite mobility …… if MM/Sam thinks that Simms has the talent to partner Dear for the next decade fck yeah! Davis is the other one I like his versatility looks promising. If these two are being spoken about late first, early second must be a pretty good draft year.
We traded back into a draft for Weddle because we had rated him so highly (top 10?) and his testing was off the charts elite.

A player would have to be similarly impressive and slide from the top 10 rather than simply someone we thought was good but a few picks down the order.

Top 5-10 player at 18 is worth it.
A player ranked 15-20... I reckon you just wait it out until pick 33.
This draft is pretty even after the early picks, going well into the 30s and 40s for decent players.
It's a good squad builder and one for the gem hunters.

Some team is going to get lucky and everybody will be scratching their heads about why it wasn't obvious before the draft.

On Cody Anderson...

'A Western Bulldogs supporter growing up, its no surprise he draws inspiration from another cult figure in Tom Liberatore, however he also models his game on Melbourne’s Jack Viney and Hawthorns Jai Newcombe. However, another player to compare him to is Dion Prestia of Richmond.'

I love that he can work alongside Newk in that case..

Too similar to Dear I think. We need to pair Dear/Mitch with an absolute brute in the Roughead / Hawkins mould. It would be good if Skaife can become this but I'd be hedging my bets and recruiting another.
??? to me Mitch Lewis is the Brute and Dear and Chol are the flyers. That being said, I have no doubt that Dear is going to going to bulk up like his brothers did and he WILL be one of the top 3 key forwards in the game and will multiple Coleman medals.

Taj Hotton please do it.

Anderson is an incredibly powerful athlete and highly competitive, but his kicking is truly awful and his ball handling is just OK. Rookie spot, or pass.

Taj Hotton would be a great get however we may not get a chance to pick him even with an upgrade.
Looked up players with acls before draft.
Top talents still went very high, but only if they had really good underage performance.

Remember Beau Muston came out of nowhere to be the best player in the draft before he did his knee, and he slid all the way to pick 22.

I see Hotton in a similar situation: limited high-level performances (only 3).
Hotton's underage year was ordinary.

Draft watchers, pls correct if my recollection is wrong.

I can't see us passing. Rumours abound that plenty of clubs have interest in him. If that's the case I'd say we'd be thrilled to welcome him aboard as a player we have special dibs on.

I agree. His rapid improvement is taking the Newcombe curve to the next level.

He can be the man, and looking forward, does he need a pure kpf partner? The game is changing, a servicable fwd who can ruck to partner Dear (and/or Lewis if he eventually comes good) is more than enough. Surround them with elite goal kickers like the ones we have and its a much tougher fwd line to match up on, especially in finals footy.

I'd rather we draft a goal kicking midfielder with some pace who can impact now, rather than a kpf who might come good in a couple of years.

Disposal is an easier thing to fix than the inate ability to win the ball.

Look at Worpel.

At a pick after 33 its a no brainer.
