I wish I was stonedYep, I said the Stones.
Yep, I said the Stones.
You bunch of peasants.
Real music, no tattoos, beautifully dressed and the only smell of urine is a few accidents in the crowd
I'm no Perry fan, but if not having recent hits is the criteria then Robbie Williams is a has been, and so are some of the acts being bandied about here.If they selected some JJJ band, it’d flop.
People at the GF want sing-alongs & spectacular visuals, they don’t care if it has artistic merit or not.
My wife LOVED Robbie Williams, even though she’s never bought one of his albums. His performance suited the event.
Katy Perry is a has-been, but she’ll perform some of the old hits, be surrounded by dancers & a few fireworks …. It’ll be ok.
Are there any hits these days like the old days though with all the streaming services we have? The whole scene has kind of change. Iron Maiden as an example are still popular without having a hit because they keep bringing out new stuff.I'm no Perry fan, but if not having recent hits is the criteria then Robbie Williams is a has been, and so are some of the acts being bandied about here.
Yeah Aunty Ticks will be giving us all a smack on the back of the hand, but here goes....I might be in trouble for veering off topic, but why do you like Combs’s version? It’s a pretty strait-laced cover that doesn’t try to do much different to the original but with a smoother (ie blander) voice. I don’t think it captures the blend of naive optimism giving way to weary resignation of the original. I’ll stick with Tracy!

Aunty Ticky, please don’t ban us all. We’re just bored little kids without the footy onYeah Aunty Ticks will be giving us all a smack on the back of the hand, but here goes....
I never liked the original, to me it always sounded so whiny, then I heard Luke Combs version and sounded how I thought the song always should, kinda down and sad without the whine.
There's still hits. There's still popular artists who used to have hits, still get played on radio a lot, who haven't had a hit recently (was kind of my point with Perry and Williams). Are there any hits these days like the old days though with all the streaming services we have? I'm a U2 fan and despite some loyal reviewers when they release new stuff, they haven't really had a hit (or a great album) for 20 or more years. Some decent songs among the forgettable (and awful), particularly for existing fans. Still popular.
Would be good for an AFL GF, though I'd be wanting Bullet the Blue Sky etc (among others), whereas I can guarantee it'd be Streets, Pride, and one of Beautiful Day/Elevation/Vertigo.
For the GF you need a performer or band that suits an arena and a 100k crowd of varied ages. Not easy! My taste ain't yours ain't hers ain't his. There's still hits. I have a few Robbie songs in my favourites, and no Perry, so I wouldn't from a personal perspective either.I wouldn't put Perry and Williams in the same category but maybe that's just me.
There aren't many who do big stadiums well. And this is where I'd be skeptical of Perry, but people forget she was, along with a couple of others, the biggest name in pop music for a while (pre Taylor Swift who is peerless in popularity). For the GF you need a performer or band that suits an arena and a 100k crowd of varied ages. But from a hit and popularity point of view they are. 10 or so year gap between their peaks obviously.
Can see why the AFL went with Perry if the goal was affordable big name.

After all that discussion I don't actually think I could name a single Iron Maiden song lol.
