Don't the players just love playing in front of nobody at Homebush? Geeze another stampede out.
Can the AFL not give away 3000 pair tickets a game to junior footy players every week or do they do that, and nobody even bothers to turn up on a freebie?

You'd think another 4500 fans (accounting for no-shows) up in the cheap seats might at least slowly build a following, and some kind of atmosphere the players can feed off.

I thought Dunkley was pretty much ungettable - is that correct?

His father (My favourite Swans player ever For what its worth) cracked the sh1ts with the club over a financial request - the club wouldn’t provide him a loan?

Either way, the younger Dunkley took a ‘set’ against us…refused to consider the Father-Son option.
Andrew Dunkley wanted to play on in 2003 but the Swans didn’t offer him a new contract. He would have been 35 etc. I think he wanted a job with the club as a welfare officer after retiring but we didn’t give him one. Clubs don’t lend money to ex players (Swans didn’t have money).

Josh Dunkley nominated the Swans under the father son scheme. We didn’t match the Bulldogs bid.

We were Dunkley's 11th choice as we agreed only to match if it was a non-Vic club who bid

We either should have drafted Dunkley, or stayed out of it altogether.

I don't understand why we would agree to play silly buggers with Andrew and only match a bid according to his preferences.

My opinion at the time is that we should have drafted him. He was 17 and obviously being influenced by his dad. Josh has since shown that he values a strong club culture. The club should have backed themselves.

The Dunkleys are a very tight and close family.

I didn't care so much at the time but the problem is Dunkley is the type of player we really miss.

Imagine somehow having him and Dawson in the side . Geez even a bit of Nankervis would be handy at times, Aliir , Mitchell

I don't worry about it , as nothing we could do now.
The Umps and Horse cost us in 16

I occasionally think wow if 4 days went differently and Horse wins every grand final we are a ****ing powerhouse

Yep, but unfortunately they didn't go differently so the only thing we are powerhouses in is choking 😢

Some pay good money for that

Thanks for clarifying what went on.

It’s regrettable we didn’t get Josh - he would have put the lid on Rayner or Ah Chee.
