I don't disagree with this, but I think all Australians have to take accountability for this, instead of every individual just assuming they are correct and it's the world around them that's gone mad.

For example your post's sentiments are often used as right-wing talking points (not saying this includes you DQ), always lamenting "woke" society, cancel culture, snowflakes etc etc. Yet the right-wing is often offended by quite literally anything that does not align with their white, heteronormative, Anglo-centric view of the world.

So 45 year old goatee-wearing Troy from the Facebook comments section might comment "the world's gone soft, can't have fun anymore", but will he apply the same easy-going, open-minded nature to, say, an all-female reboot of his favourite movie, or a Pride parade, or a Welcome to Country ceremony? Methinks not.

On the contrary i have several mates who find welcome to country incredibly offensive and just roll their eyes.

I think they/you need to review the concept of offense.

My point though was that many people who are offended by such things are the same people saying people are too easily offended.

I struggle to think of things that genuinely offend me.

Lots of things annoy me, but I don’t take offence. Life is too short.

But I do believe “being offended” has been weaponised by some in Australia for political purposes.

Which annoys me, but doesn’t offend me!

PS: the thing that annoys me most at the moment is Mrs DQ making me watch “The Block”.

To be fair, the Block is really good this year. Even though the houses look like demountable classrooms

I dont watch the block! how much of that is actually real and not just for show.

I mean the auction/selling process
It's a reality TV show mate. None of it is real.

I watch it maybe once every 3-4 years, so I'm not sure how it still is but last I watched it was literally just two loaded investors just outbidding each other for these places on auction day and as a result a number of contestants failing to make a profit while others won six figures. An absolute mess.

The judges keep saying "some lucky family will get to call this home." Ummm the Block properties are worth about $5 mill these days, any family that can afford them is probably already lucky enough!

I'll add to this point (which I agree with very much) that IMO internet culture (amongst other things) has created a really frustrating environment in which anyone becoming "triggered" or "emotionally activated" or "upset" or "offended" is now something to ridicule and sneer at. The sheer experience of emotion is now something that lots of young people are being trained to negate at any cost - you'll see people accuse others of being "triggered" or "offended" frequently and the person being accused almost always shoots right back that they aren't offended or triggered at all, as if it's the worst thing to be.

There's lots in this world to be "offended" or "triggered" by. How you go on to manage that emotional experience is important certainly but I really dislike that Elon Musk, IDW, Tim Pool, Ben Shapiro types have helped to cultivate a culture where it's a bad thing to be offended. What's resulting is an environment in which emotions are ignored and "facts" and "data" is all that matters, as if those things are infallible.

We're way off topic but I'm not sure I'd associate facts and data with the names you mentioned all or a lot of the time.
