Internal trials starting this weekend.

Will be keeping the ratings thread separate to the attendance thread this year.

Notes

Oztam have now moved completely to VOZ. At present this means no Fox or Kayo streams seem to be appearing on the oztam lists. Reach is now the focus of the Oztam reporting although an average for Linear is still being reported.

* NOTE: NEW METRICS AND REPORTS *

  • Total TV Overnight Top 30 and Consolidated 7 Top 30 reach is calculated using cumulative unique audiences watching 1 min of broadcast TV and 15 sec of BVOD.
  • Total TV National audience is calculated using the audience average for the program as time-coded by the Network across 5CM and all regional markets nationally watching on broadcast TV.
  • BVOD national audience is calculated using the total number of minutes watched (multiplied by co-viewing factor) divided by the length of the program.

Will attempt to get as much data as possible, but Oztam not making it easy any more.

"The game, which saw Queensland trounce New South Wales 38 points to 10, was the top-rating program of Wednesday night in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, where it was watched by 934,000, 809,000 and 287,000 people in Melbourne respectively."The Age/SMH

Still a long way to go to capture the hearts and minds of Victorians/Melburnians and I doubt it ever will even after CH9 flogged it to death for weeks as the greatest sporting contest in the universe it still got ordinary figures in Melbourne.

It is more of a novelty event esp as it does not involve Victoria so why should Victorians care who wins?

Pretty good for a Thursady with two out of the top 8 teams playing.

Interesting the biased that foxtel show to the nrl via Murdoch's relationship with v'landy's. I never see free to air shows advertised on my main foxtel guide, it shows the top 'on now' programs. The other night for the first time it had front and centre 'state of origin' on channel 9 and last night too with the women's. Isn't it unusual foxtel would be sending viewers to a show off their own company and on fta tv? I can't say I've ever seen a ch7 afl match advertised this way up in lights, but I may be wrong. You basically couldn't avoid it. It has to be the most marketed event in Australian sport, by a long way. Credit to v'landy's and his nsw media mates, the saturation coverage is a massive advantage.

That is a bit strange but the FTA channels do pay Foxtel to show the stations on their platform and that is why some of the seconday FTA channels are not on Foxtel.Who knows CH9 may have paid Foxtep for the PR?
I have dumped Foxtel this year way too expensive and have gone with Kayo instead.

Interestingly even with the same saturation coverage in Melboure on CH 9 it did not rate all that well.

Once again last night the AFL comes in at # 3 a long way ahead (nearly 500,000) of the NRL @ # 7!

Still the top rating show in Australia for the night when you add in foxtel, as is typical for the afl practically every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, plus this Sunday, however, I was expecting this game to push towards 2 mill. Surprised the number seems smaller than I expected.

ALL FTA TV stations are on a downward spiral and that is not going to stop as most younger people get their news, sports and from other outlets!

Came in at #4 just behind the Swimming Championships on Ch 9 still a good effort considering it was not a holiday in QLD and WA!

Yeah I know I was comparing it to Thursday and Friday night though which were games of less interest but gotta a higher audience. Perhaps it wasn't shown in a few states though.

I had no idea streaming pulled numbers this high. So if a game has these streaming numbers, if you combine it with foxtel stb and 7 fta (if it's a fta game too), then the numbers of people reached must be massive when combined.
