Pick 36 - Richmond - Harry Charleson - 182cm DEF

Harry is a very good footballer, he uses his footy smarts to always be in the right place and plays a consistent game. Usually receives the ball and starts his rebounding with running dash and dare. Likes to stay in the play by providing link up options, runs both ways hard and will try his guts out for his team. Very clean below his knees and can be good overhead also.

Next up PMBangers for GC

SUNS Pick Kayle Gerryn

-----------
SUNS have too many picks god damn. Another that's simply just a BPA selection although he's in a group of 6-12 players that I could've justified here. Gerreyn's upside is undoubtable given his athletic base and already decent size. Has shined most as a forward but I'm curious what his development in the backline would look like long term given his ability to compete aerially and at ground level is very strong, particularly with the success of Josh Draper who shares some similar traits

Pick 39 - Melbourne
Archer Day-Wicks
Bendigo Pioneers

I was quietly confident that I was getting Kayle Gerreyn here, so was spewing when he went a few picks earlier. If we were actively trading picks, I would've been really keen to see if I could've moved up to get Harrison Oliver who I even considered all the way back at Melbourne's first selection. Noah Mraz was another I was hoping might slide but just missed out on.

Day-Wicks has primarily played in the forward half and I think that's probably where he settles at AFL level. He's a nice size at 186cm, good athlete and is dangerous both in the air and on the ground. He's shown the ability to push up the ground and find the footy, but is probably most dangerous when he's stationed inside forward 50. There's potentially some scope for him to be a midfielder down the track, but I wouldn't be banking on that. I think he's probably more physically ready for AFL footy than Moraes, but whether he's consistent enough to break in early will be the question.

Pick 40 - Richmond - Thomas Sims - 199cm FWD

Strong marking tall fwd with excellent leading patterns and tall forward nous. If Sims doesn’t mark it, the ball usually drops to the ground for the smaller forwards to pounce on, it is very rarely punched away as he tries to mark it at full stretch and has vice like hands. Kicking bags of goals in the Coates league and after some impressive outings in the champs I think he has a big future ahead of him and could (in this scenario) team up well with Harry Armstrong in the future forward line for Richmond.

Up next roos_fanatic08 for north

PMBangers ...strikes gold with Kayle Gerreyn. Yesterday 30 disposals, 8 marks, 30 hit outs, 2 goals, several sidestep moves and look-away handpasses. Not too shabby for a 199cm. Kid can play.
Where did you have Gerreyn Smythe ? Would you have taken him over Sims if available? I probably would have chanced Charleson getting through and gone Gerreyn. You are killing this draft though.

I rate Gerreyn a lot, he is more aggressive and visually plays with a more haulking frame, and had them in a group that was hard to split, I went with Sims basically because of his better set shot form and he tackles, Kayle Will either take the mark or it’s up to the other forwards to keep it in the forward line. Charleson is one who’s positional attributes and use of the ball I couldn’t let slip, however, as it is becoming very noticeable, there is a big group of around 30 players that could be taken in any order, from mid second round to the last pick, given the depth of this draft of players who could be rated the same.

That is if you have a feeling that they're both viable forwards at AFL level?
I have my doubts on both players.

The key forwards are an interesting group this year. Plenty in that 20-50 range and no clear front runner, clubs will have them ranked differently.

Armstrong is my #1 and perhaps the only one I’m particularly confident in. With the quality of smalls in the 8-20 range, I’d probably overlook the Whitlock’s and target the likes of Faull, Gerreyn and Nicholls a touch later instead.

Very interesting, I would prefer to have a heap more vision of a number of players.

Armstrong is certainly a favourite of mine to be the best from the draft class. Shanahan is another that I don't mind the look of up forward, just seems to have an aggressive pack marking ability.
Then you'd have to have a close look at Gerryn. Gerryn, moves so well for a player that size, I could see him becoming more streamlined and adding some mobility and explosiveness.

Pick 45 - Melbourne
Lachie Jaques
Geelong Falcons

I quite like what Jaques offers as a half back and think there's a fair bit of upside to explore. He seems a good athlete, particularly with what he possesses aerially, showing a consistent ability to intercept. I like the fact that he can hold up defensively in one-on-one situations but also offer a bit of run coming out of D50. I worry a touch about his kicking at the next level but I think that's driven more by technique than anything else. It looks awkward at times but that doesn't mean it can't improve/be effective at the next level.
