Can’t compare in my opinion. Games evolved over years, more teams more games etc. Some boffin might be able to pull out a weighted average that makes it comparable but who cares. Cripps probably deserved his win but it’s clear the voting system is an absolute joke

look at the spread too. Mids, key forwards, rucks.
Now it's just which mid can accumulate the most touches, meaningful or otherwise.

It’s turned into such a terrible award now. I remember growing up and any position player could win it from any side. Now there are probably 20 players who have a realistic chance of winning a Brownlow at the start of each season.

Cripps a worthy winner, should be the headline.

But it won't because of the ludicrous count. It's not just him either, guys like Butters and Green in the high 20s when they had good years but nothing spectacular. Disposals and being in/under seem to be the only real factors now.

Maybe because this has jumped the shark so spectacularly there will be some sort of long overdue recalibration. Ideally a new voting method, but if not then something that at least brings more rigour to the process.

Green shouldn't have polled 3 against Hawthorn in their comeback win. Daniels won them the game in the last qtr but I find it strange that 5 goals up at 3 qtr time we couldn't get anyone in the votes. They didn't have the 3 best players on the ground.
