45 LOL your telling me cripps had a better season than Dusty's elite 2017 season
Not just that. They're telling you that Cripps had a significantly better season than every other season by every other player in the history of football. To the tune of at least 3 extra BOG's. Absolute wankfest.

It's just a popularity contest now. Why are you people still watching this?

Probably for the same reason you are commenting on it.. we are all victims of footyball.

Who else have Carlton got though? Cripps literally pulls them over the line in some games. Richmond had a lot of good players around Dusty Martin.
They have another all Australian number 1 pick mid, an all Australian number 1 pick key defender and 2 Coleman medallist’s. That’s better than most other teams have.

Anyone have the breakdown of Cripps votes over 23 games?

When Russell Ebert polled 42 votes in 1976 it was a 21 game season and he got 10x3 votes + 6x2 votes.

Think Ollie polled in 16 games when he won with 36 votes.

I can see a few positive things out of this result.
  • Cripps is genuinely a good player and won without a dodgy call from the MRO this time.
  • Daicos didn’t win
  • Butters polled very well despite also getting hammered financially by the MRO.
  • JHF got more votes than LDU (lolNorf)
  • Did I mention that Daicos didn’t win?

Unfortunately the defining factor these days is having as little competition as possible within your own team but still being part of a team that is good enough to win plenty of games. This is why Cripps and Neale have won 4 of the last 5 between them, they are the best mids in their teams by a mile.

But honestly, do you think that's never been the case in the history of football before?

This is an utter farce.

In the past this should have been a 30 vote season at best.

Cripps averaged 28 disposals, 8 clearances, 5 tackles and less than a goal for a team that scraped into the eight.

It’s not even an ‘out of the box’ season amongst his seasonal peers, let alone previous winners.

Yeah, you shouldn’t feasibly be able to have a vote tally (45) that comfortably surpasses the number of wins your team had (13) multiplied by 3. Especially when your team’s percentage was only 110, meaning you couldn’t have dominated the opposition when you won AND come close when you lost.

Midfielders poll in Brownlows and apart from Cripps and sometimes Walsh they have bugger all.
That’s exactly what makes it a joke. Harry McKay had a game where he had 19 disposals, 10 marks and 5 goals 1. It was only worth 2 votes. Clearly the best and most influential player on the ground, but a mid (Cripps) got best on.
