I think we draft a key forward for sure. Its just who and when?

Armstrong or Shannahan early or one of the Whitlocks later. You'd think that one of these or at minimum we take 1 KPF.

It's what makes this draft so open for us. Its not like were piling all our focus into one area of the draft.

Blair right now im sure

Good sides have 2 reasonably good KPF types at a minimum. Regardless of going after a KPF from another side in the future, we’ll need to draft a quality KPF also. The KPF types on our list need to be given opportunities, however, none are showing signs of being stars. Key position players take longer to develop and the longer we put off what is blatantly obvious the longer this rebuild will take.

HS article saying Bloose are leaning towards Draper at 3
copying us

gonna supercharge their rebuild when he goes home on the chance that he becomes a gun

That is pretty concerning that we didn't have a back up plan for if King was a dud. The fact that he has failed to live up to hype is further evidence that it was a failed strategy.
Cadman was the back up plan, but it seems like that by the time the King thing played out with Dimmas move, Cadman had then recommitted in the meantime.

basically the belief is the club felt they were a long way down the road with this until Dimma landed with them.

The question then turns into did we have a plan C.

Plan c is Whitlock no?

I don’t think we will take Armstrong 10/11. We will draft for best available not need, Armstrong is an 195cm deep forward who has showed little ability up the ground, and has had silver service his whole juniors. Whitlock is raw and him at 11 would be a serious gamble. I’d hope we pick Lindsay over him, but I can understand if we don’t think he’ll be there at 18 and take him, solely based off his athletic profile and potential to be a proper key forward.

For me though

Two of Allan/Reid/Lindsay/Travaglia/Hotton and then Gerreyn or Sims in the 20s

Is much better than Allan + Whitlock then a midfielder like Gross in the 20s (who I do rate, just not as highly as the mids 8-14)

From the Herald, somewhat been shared in here already but there is potential for Draper to go 3, and Adelaide would look to Langford…

“Melbourne — which has been strongly linked to Langford — may then have Finn O’Sullivan and Jagga Smith as options at pick 5.”

FOS at 6? Jagga at 6?? Or would we still go Smillie….

Its almost as though FOS has been massively over rated in here....
I was shot down big time when I said his 2024 form couldnt be ignored. He barely fired a shot in his draft year whilst players went past him.

That’s interesting that this draft has Noah Mraz, going inside the top 20. Wonder if there’s some genuine intel on that!!

Comparisons to Darcy Moore is a big wrap

Was one of the top talls coming into this year and had a strong start to the year but injury cruelled him. He’s a talent, skilled and agile but not particularly quick. Might be some intel and go 20 but more likely mid 30s and will be a good pick up for someone. KPD probably not our priority

All this does for me is highlight how much of our organisation could do with an external review.

With what you describe, it seems like the club thought 2 in the bush was better than 1 in the hand. Even with contracts now meaning two fifths of F all, we really should of had better planning.

the draft that was supposedly short on KPPs at the start of the year is proving the opposite.
There’s some good options in the ND , and reckon there’ll be a couple that slip through to the RD.

None of those were in their prime like a lynch or Cameron besides buddy.

Most have an asterisk next to their name for various reasons.

I did say some were washed up or young.

But plenty of those listed moved in their prime, even if you don’t really rate them, which is fair enough, not all were great moves or moves forced by actions (I.e. fev)

Ottens - 24
Fev - 28
Tarrant - 26
Hall - 24
Cummings - 25
Gehrig - 25
Clarke -25
Dixon - 25
Hogan - 25
Everitt - 29
Vickery - 26
Daniher - 26
McStay - 26
Brown - 27

FWIW I think we will and should take 1 KPF, and I think Armstrong is the best talent, though imo it’s not a huge difference between him and the rest. None of the KPF really stand out and demand to be selected and I don’t think any are close to what cadman produced in his draft year. What I disagree with is the phantoms that have us taking 4 talls (including a ruck), it’s way too many.

Id rather take a Faull in the 20s over Armstrong at 11 and especially at 6. Fix our midfield first as it’s easier to find quality mids than KPF, and in future drafts/trades we can narrow our focus on a KPF.
