AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Here is some footage of Grego. Has been mentioned here a bit.
12 is over ager Lachlan McArthur he is part of our VFL programWho are 54 in the ruck and 12 with the head band? That 12 has some great composure and skills.
Small midfielders (sub 189cm) - Treloar, Sanders, Gallagher, Richards, Garcia, West, Baker, Libba, Vandermeer, Scott, Harmes (11)
Tall midfielders (190cm +) - Bont, Kennedy, Williams, Poulter (4)
Medium forwards - (0)
Small forwards - A.Jones, Weightman, McNeil (3)
Small defenders - JJ, Bramble, Duryea, Dale (4)
Medium defenders - Coffield, Freijah,Cleary (3)
Tall Forwards - Croft, Ugle-Hagan, Naughton, Darcy (4)
Tall Defenders - Lobb, Khamis, Busslinger, L.Jones, Gardner, O'Donnell (6)
Rucks - English, Smith (2)
In bold are players 28 or older next year. This showing where our list will have to improve in the next 2 drafts. Most notable for me is our lack of any good young 190+cm midfielders, our lack of small forward/defender depth and very little ruck depth.
Missing a utility section. Poulter, Harmes, Kennedy, Richards, Freijah Scott Williams. Can all plug and play from mid defense & forward.I’d be putting Vandermeer and Harmes into medium forwards, though I know that doesn’t improve the overall quality of that section all that much
I was listing them by their primary positions they play the majority of their game time in.Missing a utility section. Poulter, Harmes, Kennedy, Richards, Freijah Scott Williams. Can all plug and play from mid defense & forward.
Also Swingmen. Croft, Lobb, Khamis. Can play tall forward or back.
Also things I really note about this is that we have 7 mids who will be 31 or older by the time most players from the point of the draft we are picking in are 21 and should be pushing for regular selection, 2 more players in that are delist materiel for the end of next year bringing the total to 9/15 nearly a third of that midfield depth that could be cooked, retired/delisted or in decline by this year, including the entirety of our tall midfield stocks. It'll be even worse if we lose anyone listed there to free agency or Tasmania over that time period. Very clear danger signs in the age profile.Small midfielders (sub 189cm) - Treloar, Sanders, Gallagher, Richards, Garcia, West, Baker, Libba, Vandermeer, Scott, Harmes (11)

Was easily 6’2 when I saw him at a game earlier this season. Interesting to see whether he projects as a medium forward or taller midfielder. Heard good things about his speed.Jaxon Cooney is already 186cm
Why does no-one mention him in any draft thread for '26? Is he just not that good? Was easily 6’2 when I saw him at a game earlier this season. Interesting to see whether he projects as a medium forward or taller midfielder. Heard good things about his speed.
Hard to really gauge at this point. I’m withholding judgement until I see him in CTL, but by all means is considered a good player - has the physical tools to succeed too.Why does no-one mention him in any draft thread for '26? Is he just not that good?
AFIAK it's to do with how much he grows into his body. His output of performances and apparent skills aren't at the elite end. But he's currently 186cm and still at the age where he could easily grow another 10cm (or on the other hand, could not grow at all). If he does or gets to somewhere nearby, he still could rise. Why does no-one mention him in any draft thread for '26? Is he just not that good?
Spot on, junior footy is very age dependant (upper / lower) age and 1 year in development is huge at this age, hence many kids can rocket from nowhere, especially the taller mobile kids.AFIAK it's to do with how much he grows into his body. Strangely enough I saw Hugh Goddard dominate from an early age and in his final year before been drafted he played very average by his previous standards, went from been a top 10 selection to just outside the 20Spot on, junior footy is very age dependant (upper / lower) age and 1 year in development is huge at this age, hence many kids can rocket from nowhere, especially the taller mobile kids.
Or the shorter kids who have massive growth spurts late - Patrick Cripps and Tim English the two obvious namesSpot on, junior footy is very age dependant (upper / lower) age and 1 year in development is huge at this age, hence many kids can rocket from nowhere, especially the taller mobile kids.
