Sharp and Derksen updates:

Melbourne concedes it is "looking fairly unlikely" that the club will be able to strike a trade for versatile Giant Wade Derksen.

Derksen requested a trade to a Victorian club last month and the Demons had shown interest in the 23-year-old, who is yet to make his AFL debut.

But Dees list boss Tim Lamb said a trade for the contracted tall is unlikely to be agreed to.

"I think that is looking fairly unlikely," Lamb told Gettable on Trade Radio.
"We have thrown a few scenarios at the Giants. We'd like to bring Wade to the club but it will be difficult to sort out."

In good news for the Demons, Lamb is confident of getting a deal done to sign Harry Sharp from Brisbane.

"We're still working through that. They're working through what they require in terms of points with their academy players. We're hopeful of bringing Harry in," he said. - Martin Smith

Sharp and Derksen updates:
Kind of glad that after GWS knocked us back after a few times we moved on to other business. Maybe they would have relented with a future pick thrown in or something but at a certain point the posturing over depth players gets old and isn't worth the effort.

Bit shit house for us to get Derksen to commit and then not have anything to trade for him. Might not matter but can't help us in the future
But that's the thing, we obviously had the picks available to get him and GWS said no, so we used the picks on the Essendon trade instead.

Not sure about that, getting 9 was our priority. Derksen certainly wasn't it.
GWS basically started playing hardball from day 1. We were putting in a bid for Gold Coast's 13 before we went to Essendon. I think we were hoping to get that and still have enough for Derksen but when Giants said no we went all in on pick 9.

Maybe but what could they possibly be asking for? We didn't have any picks in the 30s so the 40s were it. They weren't getting 28 even they'd know that

No clue. We've got a history of being happy to pay slight overs for guys to get deals done so maybe GWS thought they could hold out for way more than he was worth. If so maybe we just got over it and decided not to give in to a ridiculous ask and once the opportunity for pick 9 opened up we thought that would serve us better anyway.

Was confirmed not happening when we traded our future first. God our midfield will be a shit show next year.
Have faith mate. Oliver back to his 2xAFLCA AA form, a recommitted and refocussed Brand Petracca, big Midfield-Only preseason for Trent Rivers. Tholstrup showing why we didn't **** up picking him. Windsor/Langdon on the wings. BIG things coming in 25 for the Dees!!!!

This is up there with Pyke implementing the 'power stance' at Adelaide:

WEST Coast CEO Don Pyke has defended his club's trade with Carlton and Richmond that was completed on Tuesday, but conceded the deal "is not going to be popular with everyone".

The Eagles gave up pick 3 in this year's draft along with a pair of later picks and received Liam Baker, Matt Owies as well as pick 12 and 73 in return.

The move to trade out pick 3 has ruffled feathers in the west, but Pyke says the club is confident it can still land a player of significant ability at pick 12.

"If you look at the deal in isolation, the slide from three to 12 and using 14 to get Liam Baker looks a bit odd," Pyke said on SEN.
"But for us it was part of a bigger play we had around Liam and the commitment we made to him to bring him to the club. So we were fulfilling and honouring that commitment as well as sliding back in a draft we believe has got some depth.

"The challenge with not splitting pick No.3 is we had three and 26 ... three was going to be too high and 26 wasn't going to get it done. So following Hawthorn's decision to trade out the pick 14, which we could potentially have got direct from them, we were looking at how do we facilitate the trade? And that was the solution that we came up with.

"The choice we've made - I guess it's not going to be popular with everyone. But we're going to get a good player, we believe, at 12. Not as good as we would get at three, we recognise that.

"But we believe there is going to be a good player available for us at 12." - Martin Smith
Trading pick 3 because you made a 'commitment' to a role player, yikes.

In fairness to Don:

1) Still scarred buy the 2017 GF(Richmond are now 2-0 when it matters against Don)

2 Everybody's acting a fool in this period.
