There is a big difference between Warner telling the club he won't be re-signing with us and actually signing to play for another team.

I don't see what would be so great about having players playing for us who are signed with other clubs.

Not to mention, even if it was allowed, it wouldn't impact players like Houston or Warner because they aren't free agents.

If Warner wants to leave, he can ask for a trade this week.

What is the difference? Genuinely don't understand what it is. Or do you think players genuinely don't agree terms with clubs until the trade period?

There's going to be a log jam for spots next year as it is if there are no moves.

Does the coaching staff think Adams, Corey Warner, Cleary, Sheldrick, Wicks are going to be part of the team on a consistent basis? Does Caleb Mitchell improve enough to come in?
You already have Mills that comes in. Parker goes out to North.

Because Dan Houston can't sign a contract with another team when he is contracted to Port for another 4 years.

I'm not quite sure what you think you're arguing about here but the point I'm making is players signing during the season vs after the season so obviously talking about players coming out of contract. You even acknowledged yourself that the point you're arguing is irrelevant for players in contract so..?

If Warner during next season said "Yep I'm heading back and signing with WCE" who the **** cares? Do you think he'd play any less well for us if it gave him a chance at a flag?

Next season we have a lot less leverage as he is out of contract and West Coast could just threaten us with the PSD.

This is irrelevant to my post but ok.

I don't understand what would be good about Warner announcing mid season he wants to play for someone else. So we can all boo him when we lose? Or have the media constantly speculating on whether they are giving 100% effort.

I can't think of a single positive thing about knowing one of our players is committed to another club when he is still playing for us.

You'd rather the media constantly speculating on and asking him if he's staying or leaving? That's far more exhausting. Why would the media be speculating on whether he's giving 100% effort? What a dumb idea. A professional athlete isn't going to put effort in just because he's playing for someone else the following year?

What about players who announce their retirement mid-season? Do we ever hear the media say "Gee he's not putting in 100% effort because he's gone next year"?

We were blessed for injuries this season. Some of them will get another run.

If Parker leaves that does open up a spot. I'm not convinced with Adams as well. His games balance between average to good. Another season and he'll be a little slower, I won't be shocked to see him play the year in the VFL

Freo board now think Chad is Eagles bound

If he goes, and nominates WCE, I'd almost be trading now. We could grab the best defender in the draft at 3 or FOS if we want more class.

Wicks and Mitchell won't be there after their contract

Just listening to trade radio and they had a good discussion about us that mentioned how poor have drafted since 2019. Stated that it's gone under the radar due to us performing so well over that time.

Can't really argue there. Kinnear and Co. really need to lift their game, or maybe need to be given the boot! We need to be a bit more ruthless if we want to win the big one!

Just of note, there are these type of stories every draft, However in the 2021 draft we drafted Angus Sheldrick at pick 18 (which raised a few eyebrows at the time), and 2 picks later Brisbane drafted Kai Lohmann at pick 20... let's hope Angus can get his body right and actually impact next year...

Lohmann at the time was a complete what on earth pick (reach but a needs based pick), great work by Brisbane but that's not the year to bag the recruiters.

I feel the poor drafting started with the Dylan Stephens pick, unfortunately. I am not counting our Academy selections obviously, as they are basically free hits for the recruiting team.

Other than Chad, Logan (needs to show more given his draft position) and Matt Roberts, there hasn't been a lot of success so far...

I feel we try to be too smart or play silly buggers.

Sometimes the best rated player by everyone is the player you should pick.

2022: the whole bids shennigans then Konstanty when player like Weddle and Hustwaite were there and rated by a heap of people

2021: sheldrick (injured so who knows) but maybe Matt Johnston (was a slider)

2020: pretty good TBF

2019: Stephens, Gould and Taylor. Serong was too obvious for us, hit it outta the park with warner

Very much Captain hindsight, but a lot were very evident at the time

Hate to bring up old wounds but the Ling draft was a shocker. Stephens I did get it at the time and I was fairly bullish on Dylan just didn’t work out. Logan has been fine He's basically a second year key forward considering we didn’t play the bloke the first year basically. Ned year and the year after is where the development will come.

KB is currently in transition anyway. This might be is last year or maybe its next but either way he'll be an advisor only shortly so we'll have someone new to blame soon.

The buffoons in Cooney and cam Luke just spent 20 mins discussing how we have stuffed up our drafts by selecting hhk and mcandrew at pick 11 and 12

They were msd picks morons

yep, honestly bagging the club for free hits in the MSD...and HHK looked very promising anyway for every Jai Newbombe there will be 2000 spuds in the MSD they are playing local leagues and haven't been picked up for a good reason

Yeah, I'm definitely not in the 'Logan is a bust camp'! These big guys always take a lot longer to find their place in the AFL, and he has shown some promising signs. I know no two players are the same, but look how long it's taken Jesse Hogan to finally dominate a season! I just hope it doesn't take Logan that long... haha.

Hogan's a weird comparison when he dominated his first few years before injuries. 40+ goals in 3 of his 4 seasons at the Dees.

Not the same type but it took Hawkins a fair while to show signs. Next year though I want one less of these keys, for me that's Amartey going out, put another medium up there (few options there)
